Gajser World Champion in Finland

Posted on August 14, 2022

HRC factory rider Tim Gajser has been crowned the 2022 MXGP champion and is now a five-time World motocross champion, joining names like Roger De Coster, Eric Geboers, Georges Jobe, Joel Smets and Jeffrey Herlings. A stunning season for the always friendly Slovenian, who took it easy the last month and today was no different with 6-7 results for sixth overall on the day.

Tim Gajser: Unbelievable, to win one is a lot, but to win five with HRC, this is amazing. I was struggling to be honest. Thanks to everyone in my team, my girlfriend, Philippo, everyone.

Glenn Coldenhoff: I have been waiting way too long. My first win on a Yamaha and I am so happy to give them that. We have been working hard and it paid off. I want to thank my family and also I want to thank me for believing in me.

Jeremy Seewer: I struggled a lot yesterday, this isn't my favourite track. I need to work on the bike, work on myself, but Glenn was really good and deserved it, but amazing three team-mates on the podium. Congratulations to Tim also for getting the World title

Maxime Renaux: I am super happy for the team, to make 1-2-3 on the GP. A personal result it is good, but not what I wanted. It is my rookie season and we get ready for the last races and for next year.

While Gajser got the World title, in the GP itself, Monster Energy Yamaha rider Glenn Coldenhoff took the GP win, his first of 2022. The Dutch team captain scored 2-1 results for his first GP win in two years. Second overall was Jeremy Seewer with 4-2 and third Maxime Renaux with 3-3. A Yamaha 1-2-3 and while the victory by Gajser was the talk of the day, you have to respect the brilliance of that Yamaha team.

Coldenhoff led the second MXGP moto from Febvre, Jacobi, Seewer, Fernandez, Monticelli, Bogers, Kullas, Van Doninck, and Renaux 10th. Gajser in 15th place early, but quickly up to 12th. Febvre went for what seemed a dangerous pass on Coldenhoff and went down hard, dropping well back in 13th and Gajser moved to 10th spot.

After a lap it was Coldenhoff, Jacobi, Seewer, Monticelli, Fernandez, Bogers, Renaux, Van Doninck, Jonass and Gajser. Prado continues what is for him a horrible season as he holds down 15th place. Fernandez a mistake and he gets passed by Renaux, Bogers and Van Doninck.

Lap four and Coldenhoff held a four second lead over Jacobi, then Seewer, Monticelli, Bogers, Renaux, Van Doninck, Fernandez, Jonass and Gajser 10th. Bogers into fourth place and Gajser in a torrid battle with Fernandez as he moved to ninth place and his championship looks solid by the end of this race.

Gajser moved past Jonass and Vlaanderen passed Febvre for 11th spot. Gajser looking comfortable to take his fifth World title. After seven laps it was Coldenhoff, Seewer, Jacobi, Bogers, Renaux, Van Doninck, Monticelli, Gajser, Jonass and Vlaanderen 10th.

Vlaanderen passed Gajser and on lap 10 it was Coldenhoff with a nine second lead over Seewer, then Renaux, Bogers, Van Doninck, Jacobi, Vlaanderen, Gajser, Monticelli and Febvre 10th. Yamaha again first second and third as they show their muscle around this tough sand circuit.

Jacobi dropping back as he layed in seventh spot on lap 11 and Gajser getting closer. On lap 13 Gajser moved into seventh place and Renaux all over Seewer for second place. Bogers crashed and handed a position to Van Doninck, and on lap 14 the top ten was Coldenhoff, Seewer, Renaux, Van Doninck, Vlaanderen, Bogers, Gajser, Febvre, Jacobi and Jonass in 10th.

Coldenhoff wins the moto and the GP, while his team-mates Seewer and Renaux finish second and third, not only in the race, but also on the podium. Tim Gajser is World MXGP champion and now a five time World motocross champion, BRILLIANT!!!
