Geerts Goes 1-1 in Latvia

Posted on August 12, 2020

Monster Energy Yamaha rider Jago Geerts screamed back into form with a brilliant 1-1 performance at the Grand Prix of Riga today, at the Kegums circuit. The Belgian youngster looked very strong and his inconsistent results from last Sunday have been forgotten for now.

“It was a good day for me,” Geerts said. “The first heat a good start, I was second and after a couple of laps passed Tom. Second heat I got my first holeshot, but the second heat was more difficult, I got the holeshot, but they were pushing me, but I am happy with my second GP win.”

Second overall was Dutchman Roan Van de Moosdijk of the F&H Kawasaki team with a 2-2 performance, and third was another F&H Kawasaki rider Mathys Boisrame with 3-3. Red plate owner Tom Vialle of the Redbull KTM Factory team scored 4-4 results.

In the MX2 championship race it is Tom Vialle 170 points, Jago Geerts 162pts, Jed Beaton 123pts, Maxime Renaux 116pts and Roan Van De Moosdijk 115pts.

Geerts led the second MX2 moto form Van de Moosdijk, Vialle, Crawford, Laengenfelder, Renaux, Boisrame, Haarup, Beaton and Hofer in 10th. Beaton quickly into seventh place. After just a lap Geerts held a one second lead over Van de Moosdijk, with Vialle 2.4 seconds back. Olsen out of the moto.

Boisrame passed Vialle as the Frenchman continues to struggle mid-week after his stunning GP victory last weekend. Four laps and the lead by Geerts was 1.5 seconds and both F&H Kawasaki riders push the leader. Beaton up to sixth, and Conrad Mewse finds his way into the top ten. Haarup continuing the great run by the F&H Kawasaki riders as he rounded in seventh place.

The top ten after six laps was Geerts, Van de Moosdijk, Boisrame, Vialle, Renaux, Beaton, Haarup, Fernandez, Hofer and Mewse. Great battle between Van de Moosdijk and Boisrame.

Hofer down in ninth place and it seemed something broken, maybe his arm, shoulder or wrist. After 11 laps it was Geerts, Van de Moosdijk, Boisrame, Vialle, Renaux, Beaton, Fernandez, Haarup, Crawford and Watson now 10th after a nice charge. Geerts won it from Van de Moosdijk and Boisrame.
