Monster Energy Yamaha rider Jago Geerts won the opening MX2 moto and extended his championship lead to more than a moto as the gap to Vialle was now 26 points. Vialle of the Red Bull KTM Factory team had a short moment of leading the race finished in second place, but just doesn’t look as comfortable as his main rival at the moment. Third was young Dutchman Kay De Wolf of the Husqvarna factory team.

Jago Geerts: It was a good moto for me. I took the holeshot, but I made a mistake and Tom passed me, but I got him straight back. A really good moto for me and I try and do the same in the second moto.

Geerts led the opening MX2 moto from Vialle, de Wolf, Van De Moosdijk, Haarup, Langenfelder, Koskinen, Everts, Benistant and Verbruggen 10th. Geerts a mistake and Vialle into the lead and then Vialle made a mistake and the Belgian back in the lead. Geerts looking more confident than his French team-mate in this Finnish sand circuit.

On lap two the lead was 3.3 seconds as Geerts was showing brilliant consistency in his lap times. Van De Moosdijk passed his countryman De Wolf, and the top ten was Geerts, Vialle, Van De Moosdijk, de Wolf, Haarup, Langenfelder, Everts, Koskinen, Benistant, and Verbruggen still 10th.

Not a lot changing inside the top ten as on lap four the lead was 3.6 seconds and Horgmo moved into the top ten as Koskinen dropped to 14th spot. Horgmo moved into ninth as he passed Verbruggen.

On lap seven the lead was 4.1 and Verbruggen dropped out of the top ten with Karssmakers in 10th and Verbruggen 12th. Benistant all over Everts and finally passed on lap eight, while Horgmo was also looking to pass the son of Stefan.

Lap 10 and many changes inside the top ten as the lead moved to eight seconds, Vialle was still second, but third was De Wolf, then Haarup, Van De Moosdijk, Langenfelder, Benistant, Everts, Horgmo and Adamo 10th.

Getting easier and easier for Geerts as his lead went to 10 seconds on lap 13 and the top ten was Geerts, Vialle, De Wolf, Haarup, Van De Moosdijk, Langenfelder, Benistant, Everts, Horgmo and Adamo. Horgmo moved past Everts for seventh spot in the dying stages of the race. Geerts wins it from Vialle and De Wolf.
