Hangtown - The Winners
It is a list of all-time greats, from Marty Smith the first ever winner at Hangtown in 1974, to Kent Howerton, Bob Hannah, Rick Johnson, Jeff Ward, Jeff Stanton, Mike Kiedrowski, Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Ryan Villopoto, James Stewart, Chad Reed, Eli Tomac and Jett Lawrence. All legends of the sport and many multiple winners at the famous Hangtown circuit.
Carmichael won four straight and five in total on the 450 from 2002 to 2007 and also won twice on the 250/125 to be the most successful rider of all time at the circuit, but many conquered this tough old lady.
RC’s old rival, James Stewart has five wins from 125cc to 250cc, and Mark Barnett won four times on the 125 back in the 1980s. Kent Howerton won four times, as did Bob Hannah, who won on four occasions, from 250 and 125 overall wins.
So many other legends of AMA racing, including Eli Tomac, who will this weekend come up against that flashy Aussie, Jett Lawrence, who until now has two wins, but will no doubt add more in his career. Tomac will be trying to equal Stewarts five wins. Ken Roczen has four wins at Hangtown, as does Ricky Johnson.
All in all, the winners list from Hangtown reminds us what a classic this track is and one of the longest standing circuits on the AMA calendar. Enjoy reading the list below, it’s a good one.
