Red Bull KTM factory rider, Jeffrey Herlings has gone 1-1 and won the MXGP of The Netherlands, winning his 110th GP in his amazing career. Both races were exciting and victory for Herlings came after a sensational final moto battle with rising star, Lucas Coenen.

What can only be described as one of his best GP wins, the Dutchman held off Coenen, who in both motos starts back in the pack, but passed everyone, but “The Bullet”. Coenen finished second overall with 2-2, but what a performance from this young kid. Third overall was Glenn Coldenhoff.

Championship points are now Romain Febvre 835 points, Lucas Coenen 804pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 617pts, Ruben Fernandez 523pts, Calvin Vlaanderen 497pts. So a 31 point lead for Febvre over Coenen with three rounds remaining.

Jeffrey Herlings: Unbelievable, I mean, had it been two more laps I was gone, I was completely done in those last laps. Lucas came from outside the top ten and to be honest, he was just faster than me today. He had great speed.

MXGP Moto Two

Coldenhoff and Herlings in the lead in the second MXGP moto, followed by Febvre, Bogers, Gajser, Bonacorsi, Geerts, Jonass, Fernandez, Renaux and Coenen 18th. Herlings into the lead and breaking away quickly. Coenen up to 15th place. Febvre a crash and dropped to 10th place and Coenen up to 13th position. Coenen now 11th and right on the back wheel of Febvre.

Lap four it was Herlings with a 4.7 second lead over Gajser, who has passed Coldenhoff, who was third, then came Bonacorsi, Bogers, Geerts, Fernandez, Coenen, Febvre, and Jonass 10th. Coenen all over Fernandez for seventh spot.

Coenen into seventh place as he passed Fernandez, and the Belgian was then all over Geerts for sixth place. Herlings lead over Gajser was just 2.5 seconds and Coenen was coming for both of them. Gajser catching Herlings as the gap was 1.7 second and Coenen into fifth place and catching Bonacorsi fast. Coenen 11 seconds off the pace of Herlings on lap seven.

Herlings suddenly turned up the speed and was 3.5 ahead of Gajser, and surely knowing that the young Belgian is coming for him. Coenen now 10 seconds behind Herlings as he hounded Bonacorsi for fourth place. Febvre struggling somewhat in eight position.

Lap eight and 15 minutes remaining it was Herlings with 2.3 seconds over Gajser, then Coldenhoff six seconds off the leader, then came Bonacorsi, Coenen, Bogers, Geerts, Febvre, Fernandez and Jonass. Coenen all over the Fantic of Bonacorsi as he moved into fourth place and quickly onto Coldenhoff.

Lap 10 and 12 minutes remaining, it was Herlings, Gajser, Coenen, and the gap between Herlings and Coenen was nine seconds. Herlings putting the foot down with the knowledge that the young Belgian is coming. The lead by Herlings over Gajser was six seconds, with Coenen closing up on the HRC man. Febvre still in eight place.

Coenen dropped the lead of Herlings to eight seconds as he tried to catch and pass Gajser, but the gap is still a few seconds and Herlings pushing to keep that gap as big as possible. The gap down to 6.6 seconds and Coenen just two seconds off Gajser now, with eight minutes and two laps remaining.

Herlings with a lead of 5.7 over Gajser, but Coenen all over the back wheel of Gajser and into second place with a great pass. Now, can he catch the fastest man in the sand? The gap is six seconds and the Belgian kid is pushing hard to catch Herlings, who is also pushing to keep the gap above five seconds. Febvre still in 8th place.

Time running out for Coenen, but the gap is just 4.9 seconds and lapped riders everywhere. Who can cut through the lappers quicker? Four laps remaining for “The Bullet” to hold onto the moto and GP win. The gap was down to 3.3 seconds and he might just be able to pull the gap back.

The gap with three laps remaining was suddenly just 2.9 seconds and the Dutchman and Belgian will be fighting for the GP overall in the final laps. Herlings looking back now and the Belgian surely feeling confident. The gap just a second and Coenen all over the back wheel of Herlings.

Crowd going nuts now and pushing for their hero, but Coenen isn’t looking to make any Dutchman happy now, the gap is bike lengths now as Coenen all over Herlings for the lead. Two laps remaining. Herlings holding on with the gap still 1.2 seconds in the final lap. Coenen next to Herlings and looking to pass, but Herlings holding onto the lead. Herlings wins it and what a special day this was.
