Herlings Incredible Victory

Posted on August 24, 2019

The comeback man, Jeffrey Herlings has won the MXGP qualification race having only raced one moto in 2019, what a legend. Second was MXoN team-mate Glenn Coldenhoff and third World MXGP champion Tim Gajser.

Jeffrey Herlings: Yes, it was tough, I was struggling with arm pump, just one week on the bike after eight weeks off. No expectations tomorrow and this ruins it a bit, but I just go and have fun, practice and see what happens. Thanks to KTM for backing me in the bad times, but this is all work towards Assen.

Herlings quickly got into the lead of the MXGP qualification race with his countryman Coldenhoff, then Febvre, Gajser and Jonass fifth. After two laps the lead was more than two seconds, as the top five remained the same but further back Seewer was sixth, Tonus seventh, then came Jasikonis, Van Horebeek, and Paulin 10th.

The lead got to six seconds on lap four, but then Coldenhoff and Febvre started closing up on the leaders. On the fifth lap Coldenhoff was all over Herlings but the leader continued to hold the front spot. Gajser also started closing up on the top three, and suddenly the top five were just four seconds apart.

Gajser moved into third place with a pass on Febvre and was just two seconds off Herlings lead and one second behind Coldenhoff. Herlings eventually got away from second and third and won it from Coldenhoff and Gajser.
