Herlings on USA - Updated

Posted on May 02, 2022

As is often the case with Jeffrey Herlings, he was a guest on the Dutch television channel Ziggo Sport, helping out with the MotoGP coverage and the young Dutchman mentioned that he takes another trip to the doctor this week, with hopefully some good news.

When asked about the chances of racing in American, for the AMA Nationals, Herlings mentioned that there isn't much time to prepare.

As I have mentioned from the moment these rumours came out that the chances of the World MXGP champion to race in USA seemed a small chance, considering his injury. If anyone can do it, Herlings can.

When the KTM rider was first injured, it was expected that Herlings might be back in June if all went well, but this injury seems to have given more probems than expected, even for somebody like Herlings who has surprised us so many times with his injury returns and quick success.

The Bullet hasn't race since November of 2021, which will be six months and preparing to race a series that is new to him, with new tracks and a new team would need a lot more than three weeks to prepare. He last rode a bike from memory was late January, so three months ago.

Hearing him today, I just can't believe he takes that risk to race in the AMA Nationals, when he probably needs another month or two before he returns, hopefully in Indonesia for those final three GP wins to pass Stefan Everts GP winning record of 101 GP wins.

Jeffrey Herlings: So many months off the bike. I have been swimming and on the bicycle. This week back to the doctor and we hope to have for some positive news. Four weeks is short (preperation to race in America).

Former MXGP winner and now boss man for the Red Bull KTM motorsport efforts, Pit Beirer also mentioned at the MotoGP race in Jerez today that Herlings will ride the bike tomorrow and Tuesday a decision will be made on his future. It is understood Herlings still wants to head to America, but obviously how tomorrow goes will tell the story.

Pit Beirer: Jeffrey (Herlings) will be back on the bike for the first time tomorrow. On Tuesday we will meet in Mattighofen, Austria to discuss his future. We want to do the riding test first and then decide what to do. If Jeffrey is fit, we have a plan to send him to America to race the AMA Nationals.
