  • Race Report

On Australian Day back in his homeland, defending AMA supercross champion Jett Lawrence has again turned up under pressure and won the main event at A2. The Aussie looked brilliant and very patient as he worked his way into the lead after dropping to around fifth place early in the main. Second was veteran Ken Roczen, who takes over the red plate and third was Jason Anderson.

Lawrence is now third in the championship points, just five off the lead of Roczen. Championship points are Roczen 62, Chase Sexton 59 and Lawrence and Eli Tomac on 57, with Cooper Webb on 52pts.

For main event wins in his career, the HRC man also joins Broc Glover 10, Chase Sexton 10, Mike LaRocco 10 and Marvin Musquin 10 and just ahead of him are David Bailey 12, Ezra Lusk 12, Mike Bell 11. So famous names to join with another win or two.

Jett Lawrence: I had to be patient as Jason was riding well and I struggled to gain or make a pass and I had to get risky in the whoops and we both got sketchy and I didn't want to rush anything and just hit my marks and we are better than A1 and just click off good podiums and really pumped.

Ken Roczen: It is a dream, for real. After my positions last week and I thought it would have been rad to have the red plate. It was slippery with the rain, but my suspension was working in the whoops. I passed Jason and I missed a gear and he got me back.

Jason Anderson: I think that rain makes you nervous, but I was able to get out front, but I had pressure and some of the fastest guys behind me. Me and my daughter have been sick all week and its nice to do this, it was fun

A2 Main Event

Justin Cooper led from Hunter and Jett Lawrence, with Tomac back in the pack in 17th place. Anderson moved past Jett Lawrence and then also passed Hunter and Roczen also passed Jett and was all over Hunter for third place. Both Lawrences then repassed Roczen and Tomac up to 11th place before the end of lap one.

Jett into third place as Justin Cooper held a second lead over Anderson and Sexton in sixth place. Top ten was Cooper, Anderson, Jett Lawrence, Roczen, Hunter Lawrence, Sexton, Ferrandis, Stewart, Webb. Ferrandis does down and dropped back to second last, ahead of Plessinger.

Tomac dropped back to 13th place and fighting hard to get to the front guys. Plessinger crashed with Ferrandis and those two are miles back now. Anderson all over Cooper for the lead and Lawrence some 2.5 seconds back in third place. Sexton (who was sick) passed Hunter Lawrence and Tomac back up to 11th place.

Jett Lawrence dropped to 2.8 seconds back and maybe struggling in the whoops again. Tomac into 10th place and 17 seconds off the leaders, with Jett suddenly getting right up on Anderson and looking very sharp now. Get the feeling it won’t be too long before Jett is in the lead, but Anderson passed Cooper for first place and Lawrence is also right there.

It was getting close up front with Anderson, Cooper, Lawrence, Roczen and Sexton all pretty close together. Tomac still in 10th and Lawrence tried to pass Cooper for second place. Very exciting race as Lawrence moved into second place and Roczen right there also but cannot get Cooper just yet.

Lawrence looking good in the whoops now as Sexton and Roczen both pass Cooper and the top ten was Anderson with a 2.2 second lead over Lawrence, Roczen, Sexton, Cooper, Hunter Lawrence, Stewart, Webb, Tomac and Barcia. Lawrence getting away from Roczen and Sexton and now just 1.2 off the leader, Anderson.

Lawrence all over the back wheel of Anderson and the field spreading out a little at the half-way mark. Lawrence on the prowl on the leader and as they start to lap riders, the pressure is all on the American. Roczen back onto Lawrence for second and Sexton a little further back.

Lawrence looking very comfortable in second and Hunter Lawrence all over Cooper for fifth place. Tomac still in ninth place and still around 16 seconds off the leaders. Lawrence into the lead, but Anderson gets it back and Lawrence looking a little inpatient now as Roczen is also very close.

Lawrence into the lead and watch him now get away as Lawrence made a small mistake but still kept the lead. Roczen now all over Anderson and Sexton off the pace, some six seconds off the lead. Lawrence already two seconds ahead of Anderson.

The lead was suddenly 3.1 seconds, and the real Jett Lawrence has stood up tonight as he dominates the second half of the main event. Roczen still all over Anderson, but the Kawasaki rider isn’t giving him position away.

Tomac into eight places with a pass on Webb and the lead is now four seconds and Roczen still pushing to get into second place. Roczen into second and its an Aussie, German one-two, but Anderson holding up American pride as he regained second place and then Roczen tried again to pass and back into second. Lawrence loving this as the lead is now 5.1 seconds.

Sexton all over Anderson for third and Tomac still 16 seconds off the lead. Stewart dropped to ninth with Tomac and Webb now seventh and eighth. Roczen closing the gap to Lawrence a little as it is now 4.8 seconds between the two. Now 4.6, but just two laps remaining. Lawrence wins it from Roczen.
