HRC factory rider Jett Lawrence, who will make a comeback this coming weekend at the opening round of the AMA Nationals knows that he needs to be consistent and stay out of trouble to add yet another title to his name.

Lawrence had already won one-time 450cc AMA Supercross & 450cc AMA Motocross Champion, a two-time 450cc SMX, 250cc AMA Motocross, & 250cc AMA Supercross Champion. Lawrence was also the 2020 Marty Smith Pro Rookie of the year in the 250cc class for the AMA Motocross Championship. He also received the Ricky Carmichael Award at the 2022 Motocross des Nations.

After racing in his native Australia as a youngster, Lawrence earned the 2014 65cc World Championship in Belgium at age 11. In 2016 he campaigned the German ADAC series and the 85 European Motocross Championship, and two years later, he made the jump to the 250 European Motocross Championship at age 14.

The Lawrence family then relocated to the USA, where Jett raced for Factory Connection–initially with their amateur squad, then the pro team, taking 2020 Rookie of the Year honours.

The next year saw him move to the factory CRF250R with Team Honda HRC, with whom he earned the ’21 and ’22 AMA Pro Motocross 250 Championship, as well as the ’22 AMA 250SX East Region and ’23 West Region crowns.

He then advanced to the big class and took the ’23 AMA Pro Motocross 450 crown with an undefeated performance, then put an exclamation point on the year by collecting the inaugural SuperMotocross 450 title. He followed up in 2024 by adding the AMA Supercross 450 crown and repeating as SuperMotocross 450 World Champion.

Staying Consistent

Jett Lawrence: Over the years, I’ve learned that it’s more about consistency, not just raw talent. You need to stay calm under pressure, especially in the final laps. It’s the little things that add up, not just being the fastest guy out there. I spend a lot of time visualizing my races. I’ll close my eyes and run through every corner, every jump, and how I’ll approach the track. It’s like a mental map that helps me stay prepared, especially when things get hectic. It’s become a key part of my routine.

Having Fun

Jett Lawrence: Honestly, I try to keep the fun alive. That’s the biggest part. It’s a sport I love. If you forget why you started in the first place, you’ll lose that fire. I try to enjoy every race as much as possible.”

Evolving the Sport

Jett Lawrence: I want to win as much as possible, but I also want to help grow the sport. There are a lot of young riders out there with incredible potential, and if I can be a mentor or give advice, that would mean a lot. The sport is evolving, and I want to be part of that evolution. I want to stay healthy, keep learning, and take the time to enjoy the moments. But yeah, there are some championships I have my eye on, for sure.
