Growing up riding motorbikes in the Sunshine Coast hinterlands, Jett Lawrence burst onto the motocross scene in 2014, claiming the 65cc World Championship in Belgium aged 11. Not long after, his family make the ultimate sacrifice and moved to Europe to support Jett and his brother Hunter’s international racing aspirations.

The two brothers now call the US home and competing in the 250 Motocross Championship, run by America Motorcycle Association (AMA) Pro Racing. 

Jett’s journey from Queensland to Europe and now as a pro in the US, paid off when he found himself in front at the birthplace of supercross - Anaheim - during stop three of the 2020 championship. The youngster would eventually learn the harsh consequences of the big time, hitting the ground on the final lap, resulting in a concussion and broken collarbone.

One year later, at seventeen years old, Jett secured his first AMA Supercross professional win, in a dominant display at Houston’s second stop of 2021. The win solidified his hype and place as a true prodigy rider - Jett Lawrence had emerged.

His form dipped mid-way in 2021, but a late-season surge saw the teenage sensation with four wins in succession and winning five races out of the last nine. Jett headed into the final round of the championship on top of the leader board and the 250MX Championship title within his reach. 

At the final race of the 2021 season at in Sacramento, Jett secured the 2021 AMA Pro Motocross 250MX Championship title, making him the first ever Australian to do so in the 250 class.

Not only is Jett one of the world’s most exciting motocross/supercross racers but he is determined to forge his own path off the track. Australia motocross star, Jett Lawrence, was yesterday crowned the first ever Australian to win an American 250 Pro Motocross Championship, known as one of the world’s premiere professional motocross championships.

The teenager who hails from Landsborough in Queensland wrapped up the 2021 AMA Pro Motocross 250MX Championships, in just his second full season as a pro racer, claiming the overall championship title at the season finale Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, California. 

The Aussie prodigy, who is slowly getting his head around the incredible title win, said it’s a bit like waking up in the best dream ever.

“Yesterday was a very cool day,” said Lawrence. “It’s all a bit of blur and hasn’t completely sunk in, but it was really special to celebrate with my team, family and friends last night. I’m really proud to be an Australian and represent over here. There has been a lot of hard work and sacrifice behind the scenes from a lot of people to get to where we are, so I’m pretty stoked with the result.

Older brother and teammate Hunter Lawrence finished third in the title chase, making the Queensland brothers the only siblings to ever both finish an AMA Pro Motocross Championship in the top three. The whole Lawrence family relocated to Europe for two years, before moving to the US at the beginning of last year, in order to chase their racing dreams.

“It’s awesome to have Hunter in the Championship with me. We ride together every day and push each other to be faster, but have a lot of fun. To have us both finish in the top three is super cool."

Known for his hard work and perseverance, with a relaxed attitude, Lawrence has a clear focus on the future and says he has the right people in his corner to continue improving.

“I’ve got a really good group around me at HRC Honda and will stay focused on working my butt off to keeping on getting wins. We didn’t always make it easy on ourselves this year and there is loads to improve on. I always learn lots from my mistakes – my aim will be to keep on getting better.”

The prestigious championship win now catapults the popular young star to a new level in the international motocross & supercross stage and will further boost his already cult popularity online & at the track.
