KTM Continue to Change
Pierer Mobility AG has been officially renamed Bajaj Mobility AG after the completion of Bajaj Auto's takeover of KTM AG, positioning the Indian manufacturer as the majority owner and main decision-maker of the global motorcycle group.
The name change came into effect on January 13, 2026. Bajaj now holds a 74.9 per cent stake in KTM AG, giving it a controlling interest over the Austrian motorcycle maker and its affiliated brands under the new group structure.
The company have confirmed plans to cut around 500 jobs as part of a wide-ranging cost-reduction programme, marking the latest step in the firm’s post-insolvency strategy.
The layoffs, which are expected to fall largely on salaried staff and middle management roles. As of December 31, 2025, KTM AG employed 3794 people, down from 5310 a year earlier.
The latest cuts are part of a global ‘rightsizing’ programme that aims to “strengthen competitiveness in the long term by reducing fixed costs, streamlining structures, focusing the product and project portfolio, and optimising our international location and management network.”
The announcement follows a series of strategic withdrawals over the past year, including the sale of MV Agusta, the divestment of the X-Bow sports car division and the termination of KTM’s European distribution agreement with CFMoto.
Financial figures released alongside the announcement paint a mixed picture. Bajaj Mobility AG expects 2025 revenues to come in at just over €1 billion, a year-on-year drop of around 46%. Motorcycle sales totalled 209,704 units, down 28%, though the firm points to a strong recovery in the second half of the year, with July to December sales up 60% compared with the previous six-month period.
A major part of that restructuring has been a significant reduction in unsold stock, with inventory cut by more than 100,000 motorcycles year-on-year. Sales of e-bicycles and bicycles, meanwhile, fell 40% as the division was wound down entirely.
