The Upper Franconian is currently leading the MX2 World Championship again. After a six-year break, the former ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 champion competed in the ADAC MX Masters class for the first time last year and is looking forward to competing in front of his home fans again this year.

How did the decision to compete in the ADAC MX Masters in Dreetz?

Simon Längenfelder: We now have a break from racing in the World Championship for over a month after the GP in Arco last weekend. During that time, I really want to race to stay in the race rhythm and Dreetz fits in perfectly. I will also use the whole thing to contest my first race on a 450cc bike."

Do you know the track in Dreetz?

I've been to Dreetz for training a few times and I mean, I've raced there in my youth. But I've never been there as part of the ADAC MX Masters. The track has it all. It has a lot of 180-degree corners where you have to dig yourself out of the sand. I heard that many riders moaned last year that the track was so worn out. But it's all the better for me to prepare for the other MXGP races."

Was the premiere in the ADAC MX Masters class last year so good that you wanted to race again this year?

The fact that I now live in Germany again has definitely made it easier to compete in the ADAC MX Masters, as the journey has become much shorter. I was surprised at how professional the series is, as I only knew MXGP from previous years. There are a lot of drivers, which is always cool, all classes are full, you even have to qualify for the ranked races. I don't know that from the World Championships anymore, so it really surprised me positively and now I'm happy to be back in Dreetz. I've set myself the goal of competing in the ADAC MX Masters for one or two races every year. But I can only decide that at short notice, because it depends on my calendar, my fitness, my bike and other things whether it is possible. Driving a race is actually always the best training. So why should I stay at home and watch the livestream when I can go myself?"

What influence has the series had on your career?

When I raced in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 in 2018 and 2019, there weren't as many EMX races as there are today. In order to get better into racing practice and learn at international level, the ADAC MX Masters really helped me a lot. To have a series at such a high level on my own doorstep, so to speak, with so many drivers from all over the world, was an important building block on my way to the top of the world."

What are the goals for Dreetz?

The established Masters riders know the track well under racing conditions from previous years. Of course I want to try to win in Dreetz, but I also know that it's my first race on the 450, that I have to take it easy and the others are really strong. The duel between Max Nagl and Roan van de Moosdijk in the second race in Grevenbroich showed how good they are. I'm curious to see how it will turn out with the 450. I haven't ridden it much, only a few days and with the setup of my 250s. In any case, I'm looking forward to competing in my first racing metres on the big bike and gaining experience."

How important is direct contact with the German fans, such as at the autograph session on Sunday?

Because I'm now more in Germany again and do most of my training sessions here, I think it's generally cool that I really see a lot of people and fans with whom I can talk. And for them, it's also great that they don't just get to see me in the livestream. I think it's great to be able to present myself live to them and provide them with good entertainment with good races. There was a lot going on in Tensfeld last year and I assume that the fans in Dreetz will also create a good atmosphere."
