Langenfelder Wins in Drama
Red Bull KTM factory rider, Simon Langenfelder has won a dramatic world championship after heavy rain, take-outs, mechanical issues, a red flag and even more drama. The German rider did it the hard way, and while he deserved the title, he sure took the emotional route today. Even his sudden celebration after the red flag and in pouring rain made this one of the wildest championship wins, I have ever seen.
First being taken out by Kay De Wolf early in the moto, to coming back from more mistakes in the thick mud and finally, celebrating victory with the race being stopped after the officials stopped the moto.
Simon Langenfelder: I cannot believe it, I was sure it was gone and then I saw Kay stopped. It was so gone in one moment, thank you god (for this rain). So much happened in the last race, with the rain, but somehow it worked out for me.
Kay De Wolf: It is what it is, no regrets, I did everything I could have done and it is amazing I came back from so many points down and its a bummer it ended in rain and my dream ended like this. I wanted to end it like a champion, but I couldn't make it happen. Next year I will bounce back.
MX2 Moto Two
Coenen and Langenfelder led the second moto, with de Wolf on their back wheel as the two battled and then de Wolf blocked passed Langenfelder and he went down. Langenfelder now back in seventh place. Suddenly the rains came and in Darwin, its tropical rain and this beautiful circuit will be a mess within minutes. Langenfelder now right behind Everts, who might also help the situation.
Pouring rain made vision impossible and as MXGP has been most of 2025, its raining again as Langenfelder goes back down and the championship is now de Wolf’s to lose. Langenfelder again in problems and he was back to 11th place. Langenfelder looking a mess as he dropped to 13th place.
Top ten on lap three was suddenly Coenen, de Wolf, Farres, Adamo, Everts, Lata, McLellan, Valin, Elzinga, Reisulis in 10th. Adamo moved into third place and de Wolf looking a little erratic as the circuit is just one big mud bath. Langenfelder up to 12th position. De Wolf all over Coenen for the lead and will the Dutchman be crowned in the mud of Darwin today?
Everts down and stuck in the mud as de Wolf now seven seconds off the lead and maybe taking it easy. Langenfelder into 10th place and then ninth. De Wolf’s machine looking to have a problem, as Langenfelder coming through the pack. This is drama at the highest level.
De Wolf and Langenfelder on the same points, but Langenfelder making progress and de Wolf looking in some trouble with his bike. Langenfelder lost his goggles, but closing up on Reisulis for a pass, that might give him the world title.
De Wolf stuck in the mud and seemingly out of the moto with a bike issue. Complete chaos with this rain and Langenfelder closing up on de Wolf and the German will be crowned worldchampion today as de Wolf out of the moto with a bike that won’t continue. Adamo also stuck in the mud. Langenfelder and KTM win the 2025 MX2 world championship as the red flag came out. One crazy ending to an exciting MX2 championship.
De Wolf gets the GP win, with the officials taking it back some laps, with Langenfelder second in the GP and Lata third. Obviously, Langenfelder still world champion, but boy, what a wild, wet and wacky end to this championship.
