There is no doubt, the penalty given to Jett Lawrence last weekend for jumping the gate, was one of the most ridiculous penalties ever given, in the sports history. If it does end up costing him an AMA 450 motocross championship, then it will go down in history as a major mistake in our sport.

Sure, a penalty for jumping the gate, even if it was a just a silly mistake, but how about a position or two in the results or a 10 second penalty. That would be a correct penalty. Jett Lawrence told Weege on the Weege show what he felt of the penalty.

“I had a bit of a good flow [in moto two], I don’t know how I got to first in only a few laps. I just blacked out because I was so pissed off. AMA has its rules, I guess, so it is what it is. We’ll get back to work, come back, and get better starts so I don’t get penalized. If I had gained a really big advantage and came into turn one three seconds in front of everyone, then yeah, I would understand [the penalty]. But three feet out, I was already behind everyone, so penalize me 10 seconds or something, one full lap, I’ve never heard of that.”
