In what was an intriguing opening free practice at the 2025 Monster Energy Motocross of Nations, the MXGP class came out blasting good lap times, with several riders showing good speed, but as expected, the fastest man on the planet, Jett Lawrence led the way.

Ruben Fernandez went fastest at one point, but then the Aussie came out and did a lap time of 1.55.866, which was two seconds quicker than anyone else. Tim Gajser, another HRC man showed his hand with a 1.57.139 to be a little more than a second slower than Lawrence.

Lucas Coenen, who was as low as 10th at one point, fired off a 1.57.872 to be third fastest, with Eli Tomac, Fernandez, Ken Roczen, Romain Febvre, Glenn Coldenhoff, Isak Gifting and Antonio Cairoli rounding out the top ten with time running out for the session.

It is obvious that the AMA 450 motocross champion has speed up his sleeve and a little surprise that Gajser, who still isn’t 100% was quicker than regular AMA and Ironman competitors, Tomac and Roczen. In saying that, both were quicker than World MXGP champion, Febvre, who’s best was a 1.59.265, which was more than three seconds slower than the AMA 450 champ.
