Loket - Rider Comments
A feest of rider comments from the MXGP of Loket as Lucas Coenen and Simon Langenfelder take KTM to the top of the podium, once again. More comments to come throughout the day, so keep checking back.
Lucas Coenen: “Happy to be 1st and gain some points. Physically I felt really good, and I was pushing but I knew this track would be tricky: you can lose a lot here. I’m happy to win but not so much with the second moto because I lost time…but we showed we have the speed. It’s good for the confidence, and now my home GP is coming. We’re closing [the gap] in the championship, and we’ll keep pushing until the end.”
Romain Febvre: "I know I can win the race if I make a decent start and we have made a good step on the starts this weekend, just the first moto not. We don't really understand what happened at the gate in that first moto today but I rode a good first turn to come out fourth and pass Gifting for third but then I spent twenty-five minutes behind Pancar. He was riding really well and every time I closed on him he had another good sector. It took me a long time to figure out a way to pass him but I eventually managed it four laps from the end and was OK for second until I made a mistake on the last lap; I hit a little hole coming out of the turn, my hand came off the gas and I got sideways on a jump. I wasn't injured but I lost three positions and was really disappointed. I took the lead quickly and made a gap to win the second moto; I won two races out of three this weekend and I would have won the GP if I hadn't made that mistake on the last lap of race one."
Glenn Coldenhoff: "Yeah sure, it’s been another good weekend. In the first moto I missed the start a little and had to fight hard but still managed to get fourth. In the second moto I pulled the holeshot and tried to stay in front as long as I could. I battled with Lucas and made some mistakes, even stalling the bike on the last lap, which was scary, but I still finished third in the moto and got another podium. Things are looking good and I can’t wait for Lommel next week."
Simon Laengenfelder: “The first moto was a holeshot win but for the second one I had to fight. The track was so slippery and I really had to push. I took some stones…but I made my passes even if it wasn’t easy to find new lines. I think this is my first ‘overall’ without going 1-1 this season but it’s still nice! Good to bounceback from Finland.”
Mathis Valin: "What a great weekend! My first GP moto win yesterday in Qualifying and two thirds for third overall and my first podium today. I had two good starts again today, especially in the second race when I took the holeshot. It was my first experience to lead a GP moto so it was stressful, but I tried to concentrate on my technique and enjoy it. I was a little tired at the end but I hung in there for my first podium so now on to Lommel next weekend; I like the sand so we will prepare for that this week and look for more success."
Kay de Wolf: "It wasn’t the result we came here for, but I’m proud of how we turned things around after race one. Loket is always a tricky place - the track changes so much throughout the weekend, and it really keeps you on your toes. After the crash in the first moto, I just tried to reset and focus on what I could control. The second race was a lot stronger, and I felt like I was riding well - just ran out of time to get closer to the podium. Still, we took good points and we’re right there in the championship. Now it’s full focus on Lommel - I’m excited for that one.”
Liam Everts: “It’s tough watching the races from the sidelines, especially knowing how much work we’ve put into this season. The crash in Finland was a big setback, but right now my focus is fully on recovery and coming back stronger. I want to thank everyone for the support - from the team to the fans - it really means a lot during times like this!”
Andrea Adamo: “A little bit of a struggle this weekend. Not the best start in the first moto, then I crashed and had to find my way back. I think I did quite good to finish where I was but in the second moto did what I really had to do. Super! Let’s keep going like this. There are many GPs still to go.”
Sacha Coenen: “Not the best starts this weekend and my riding was mixed: good on Saturday but not great in the first moto, even though I came back to 2nd place. My flow was better in the second moto but I was almost last after the start! P4, not much more to say. Now we’re looking forward to our home GP and we’ll give our all.”
Jeremy Seewer: "This weekend we made a positive step forward. We made a major change that seems to be working really well, and now we need to focus on all the little details that will help us progress. We changed the setup, the feeling was really positive, and you could see I was feeling more like myself on the bike. We still need to improve our starts, but I think we'll be where we want to be in a few races. In the first race, I was unlucky with a small issue, without even crashing: after a jump, my engine stalled. Otherwise, I was going super fast, maybe even for a top-three finish. It's a shame, but it was still a solid GP, and now we have something to build on.”
Mattia Guadagnini: “I got a great start in the first race, and even though I wasn’t at 100%, with a calf injury from Saturday and some arm pump after a few laps, I was riding well and holding ninth until four laps from the end. Unfortunately, an incident with another rider, who was trying to pass, and the crash cost me a lot of positions. In the second moto, my start wasn’t as strong, but I pushed hard in the early laps and kept a nice pace. I was closing the gap to the riders ahead towards the end, but fatigue set in, and I finished 11th. Overall, I’m satisfied. It was a solid step forward after coming back from injury, even if I felt I deserved a better result.”
Ruben Fernandez: Definitely a tough pill to swallow, finishing fourth and coming so close to the podium once again. After the second place in race one, I really felt good and was excited for race two, unfortunately, before I reached the first corner my chances of victory were over. I remounted almost last and tried as hard as I could to pass as many riders as possible and got all the way up to seventh, just two points short of the podium. Still, I think we showed that the prototype bike is excellent and can handle world championship racing, so now we’ll keep working and try again in Lommel next weekend.
Valerio Lata: After yesterday, I really felt like today could be a good day, but I just wasn’t as comfortable, and I couldn’t match the pace of the top riders. The only positive was that my starts were good once again, but I know I need to improve and even though Lommel will be tough, I need to start challenging higher up the field.
Guillem Farres: “That’s the weekend done here in Loket. Saturday was tricky with the rain, and 10th in the qualifying race with a small crash was OK. Today, I had a great start in race one and ran fourth for the whole moto. I was really close to second and third at one point, but I just couldn’t find a way to make a pass. I had another good start in the second moto and held fourth for a while, then dropped to fifth. Near the end, Camden passed me and I ended up sixth for sixth overall. I’m getting closer and closer to the front guys so I’m excited for the upcoming races.”
Camden McLellan: “This weekend has been a little disappointing for me. My riding and speed were good, but I just made too many mistakes to challenge for the podium. It’s a shame how things went this weekend, but I know my speed is good, and I’m looking forward to Lommel next weekend.”
Thibault Benistant: It’s not been an easy weekend for me. Fifth in the Qualifying Race was good and I was able to bring this speed into Race One. I had a good start, around fifth, and I was riding well until I made a small mistake. I then clipped another rider’s wheel later in the race and dropped to seventh. My start in Race Two wasn’t as good, but I made a lot of passes early on. It was tough to make more passes as I got closer to the front, and then I had a small crash. I finished the race with a good charge, although it wasn’t enough to move any higher than seventh, unfortunately.
Karlis Reisulis: Today was a good day overall. I felt good on the bike in Warm-up and felt confident for a good result. I didn’t have the best start in Race One, but pushed hard all race to finish ninth. My start was much better in Race Two, however it took a while to find my rhythm and I slipped to ninth at the finish. Overall, two consistent results for ninth, and now it’s onto Lommel next weekend.
Calvin Vlaanderen: Tough weekend. I definitely wanted more and I had the speed, but I just couldn’t execute in the races. I crashed on the first lap of Race One, charged through the field, then crashed again. My start in Race Two was good but the track had dried out a lot and it was so hard to make passes. I made one last push near the end but it just wasn’t possible to make any passes. Overall, not the best day, but I'm healthy and I put some good points on the board.
Jago Geerts: Overall, the weekend was pretty good. I didn’t have the best start in Race One, and didn’t ride as good as I know I can, but I finished ninth so that was a good start to the day. In the second one I was running seventh until near the end when I twisted my ankle. That allowed Ruben Fernandez by but I was able to hold on to eighth for eighth overall. Next weekend we have my home GP so I’m looking forward to that one.
Maxime Renaux: Today was not the best. I had a good start in Race One, but I didn’t have a good feeling on the track. I finished sixth, so it wasn’t too bad. I was focused on a better result in the second race but I got caught up in a first turn crash. My rear brake got damaged in the crash and with how this track is, it just wasn’t possible to race properly. We’ll now regroup and be ready for Lommel next weekend.
