What makes this year’s MXGP of Belgium a little more interesting is the fact that four of the top five riders (if you include Jeffrey Herlings) have had multiple success at the tough Lommel facility.

Jorge Prado has won on four occasions at Lommel, three times in the MX2 class and once in MXGP, so victories in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, pretty impressive.

Of course, Antonio Cairoli owned Lommel back in the start of last decade, winning in 2010, 2011, 2012 (MXoN), and 2014, while Jeffrey Herlings and Tim Gajser have owned Lommel somewhat in the last half decade, with Gajser winning in 2019 and twice in the 2020 triple header. Herlings won in the MX2 class in 2011 and won MXGP in 2017 and 2018.

Apart from last years MX2 class, which was won twice by Tom Vialle and once by Ben Watson, the big four have dominated recently in the deep, dark sand.

If you add wily veterans Shaun Simpson and Kevin Strijbos, who have also won at Lommel, Simpson in 2015 and Strijbos in 2016, seven riders in the MXGP class have victory at this circuit, Cairoli, Herlings, Gajser, Prado, Strijbos, Simpson and Watson.
