Loretta Lynn - Day One Report
Opening day for the 44th Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship Presented by AMSOIL kicked off an action-packed week of racing on Tuesday, where the summer heat became a major factor during the opening 24 motos of the 2025 event.
The first gate drop of the week got racing underway at 7:00 a.m. local time and carried on into the early evening, as the sun began to set on legendary Loretta Lynn Ranch. All the while, ambient temperatures hovered in the mid-90’s and were intensified by humidity levels around mid-60%, which pushed the heat index well into the triple digits.
Moto 1: 85cc (10-12)
The talent-laden minibike classes will be a focal point all week at the Ranch and the first to hit the track was 85cc (10-12) in the third race of the day. The moto began with the KTM of Ryder Lane leading the field to the holeshot, but he was soon passed by multiple riders. Eventually it was the Suzuki RM Army rider of Chase Brennen who grabbed a hold of the top spot to lead the opening lap, but he was then passed by the Twisted Development KTM of Sawyer Gieck.
Once out front, Gieck laid down the fastest lap of the moto to establish a multi-second lead over the field that he’d never relinquish. The Wyoming rider continued to ride consistent laps and eventually moved out more than 10 seconds ahead of the field, easily capturing the Moto 1 victory by 12.7 seconds over Brennen, who maintained a firm hold of second throughout the race. The moto podium was rounded out by MotoBros KTM rider Anderson Waldele, followed by the KTM of Eidan Steinbrecher in fourth and the PR 2 Racing GASGAS of Carter Gray in fifth.

Moto 1: Mini Sr. 2 (13-15) & Mini Sr. 1 (12-14)
The minibike action continued with the first moto of Mini Sr. 2. The first moto began with the MRPSBR Husqvarna of Dylan Graham leading the field to the holeshot, but he was quickly passed by multiple riders. Soon it was the Triangle Cycles BLU CRU Yamaha of Cooper Johnson who surged into the lead and took control of the moto, ahead of Altus Motorsports GASGAS’ Elliott Bowsher and fellow GASGAS rider Hannah Jamison.
As Johnson strengthened his hold of the lead over the course of the moto, it was the Husqvarna of Maddox Temmerman who was on a march forward. The Californian was the fastest rider on the track over the second half of the race and consistently chipped away at Johnson’s lead. With mere laps remaining, the top two were separated by just over a second. Shortly after he took the white flag Johnson made a big save to keep from going down, but his stalled momentum allowed Temmerman to slip past to take the lead. It proved to be the defining moment of the moto as Temmerman kept Johnson at bay over the final circuit to take the win by 2.2 seconds. Altus Motorsports BLU CRU Yamaha’s Tayce Morgan finished in third, followed by GASGAS rider Alex Campigli in fourth and Bowsher in fifth.
Moto 2 for Mini Sr. 2 is scheduled for Wednesday.
The racers returned to the track a few hours later for the opening moto of Mini Sr. 1, which saw Gresham Powersports Husqvarna’s Jaxon Lang grab the holeshot. However, it was once again Temmerman who was on a torrid push to the front after starting seventh, where successfully moved into the top spot before the completion of the opening lap. The clear track became a huge advantage as Temmerman quickly established a lead of more than five seconds after just a couple laps. However, that margin disappeared when the Husqvarna rider crashed on the third lap, which allowed Tayce Morgan to assume the lead aboard his Yamaha. Temmerman recovered quickly to remount in second.
Morgan paced the field through the heart of the moto, but just after the halfway point Temmerman laid down a lap nearly three-seconds faster than Morgan, which all but eliminated the Yamaha rider’s gap. With a half-second between them, Morgan bobbled slightly and Temmerman took advantage of the opportunity to reclaim the position with just a couple laps to go. Morgan kept Temmerman honest but didn’t have enough pace to mount an attack. The Husqvarna rider finished strong to sweep both Mini Sr motos, which made the Temmerman family 3-0 on the afternoon. Morgan finished in second, with Dylan Graham third, Campigli fourth, and KTM rider Hudson Vagele in fifth.

Moto 1: 250 Pro Sport
The top prospects in amateur motocross took to the track for the first time just before lunch, with one of the most wide-open 250 Pro Sport fields in recent memory. The first moto got underway with the Munn Racing Husqvarna of Diesel Thomas out front with the holeshot, closely followed by MRPSBR Husqvarna’s Dane Morales and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green’s Landen Gordon, who made several passes early on to slot into the top three. Gordon continued to push the pace early and successfully took over the lead after Thomas went down, just ahead of KTM Orange Brigade’s Luke Fauser, who followed into second. Right behind them in third was SLR Honda’s Leum Oehlhof. Fauser then went down, which allowed Oelhof to move into second and EBR Performance/Altus Motorsports BLU CRU Yamaha’s Landon Hartz into third.
Oehlhof was the fastest rider on the track and after a persistent challenge for the lead, the Honda rider made the pass on Gordon to move into the top spot. Oelhof continued to control the moto through the halfway point, as Gordon continued to lose ground and eventually lost his hold of second to fellow Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green rider Enzo Temmerman. Once in second, the Californian was able to lower his pace and gained ground on Oehlhof out front. Temmerman continued to close on the Honda and turned an outside line into the winning pass around Oehlhof with a little less than half the moto to go.
Once out front, Temmerman stormed out to a lead of more than 20 seconds as Oehlhof encountered misfortune and was ultimately unable to finish the moto. Temmerman carried on to take the win 25 seconds ahead of Gordon for a Team Green 1-2, while Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Landon Gibson put forth an impressively resilient ride to overcome a 16th-place start and finish third. Hartz followed in fourth, with Thomas rounding out the top five.

Moto 1: Junior (25+)
Another wide-open division at the Ranch, the Junior class contested its first moto with a field littered with ex pros. Out the gate, it was the Kawasaki of Steven Mages and the Yamaha of Hayden Hefner side-by-side coming to the holeshot. While Mages was able to put himself out front initially, Crosley Radio Yamaha of Jacob Baumert stormed past both riders to take the early lead. He was followed by the Husqvarna of Chris Canning, who experienced a scary crash that took him out of the race on the opening lap. After, the KTM pair of Ezra Hastings and Tim Weigand into second and third, respectively.
The clear track worked heavily into Baumert’s favor as he soon moved out to a multi-second advantage over the field. Behind him, riders continued to jockey for position with multiple passes throughout the top five. It didn’t take long for Baumert to tighten his grip on the lead even more, with nearly 10 seconds sitting between him and South Mississippi Powersports Husqvarna’s Heath Harrison, a former class champion who settled into second. The battle for third became a three-rider affair between Hastings, Muc-Off/FXR/ClubMX Yamaha’s Brandon Haas, and Let’s Ride Powersports Honda’s Jake Weimer. All three traded the position over the course of the moto, until Weimer was able to get the better of his rivals.
Baumert was never challenged up front and carried on to take an impressive moto win by 15.7 seconds over Harrison, with Weimer in third, Hastings in fourth, and Honda rider Luke Vonlinger rounding out the top five.

Moto 1: 250 B
This year’s 250 B class features several elite prospects that graduated from minibikes, ready to make their big bike debuts at the Ranch. The start of Moto 1 saw the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing ride of Carson Wood storm out to the holeshot several bike lengths ahead of the field to lock down the top spot. In close pursuit from second was KTM Orange Brigade rider Deacon Denno, with Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green’s Vincent Wey in third. The lead trio was separated by less than a second until Wood lost control and went down while crossing the line to complete the opening lap. Denno then moved into first, with Wey all over his rear fender, while the GASGAS of Tomi Doble followed in third.
As the early laps went by, Denno’s lead over Wey grew more and more. By the time the moto surpassed its halfway point, the KTM rider enjoyed a double-digit advantage. Wey, meanwhile, started to come under pressure from a hard-charging Owen Covell, who powered his Yamaha from a 12th-place start and into the top three as the fastest rider on the track. The Massachusetts rider caught and passed Wey for second with a few laps remaining and looked to erase a five second deficit to Denno.
Denno’s pace dropped significantly in the closing laps, more than five seconds per lap, which allowed Covell to catch and easily pass his KTM mounted counterpart for the lead with just over two laps remaining. Denno dug deep to try and make one final push, but Covell stormed to the win by 1.5 seconds over Denno, with Wey in third. Kawasaki rider Nate Freehill was fourth, with EBR Performance/Altus Motorsports BLU CRU Yamaha’s Chace Lawton in fifth.

Moto 1: Supermini 1 (12-15)
The back half of the afternoon saw Supermini 1 take to the track for the first time, where the GASGAS of Chase Dashiell grabbed the holeshot but was eventually passed by another GASGAS ridden by Colt Martin. Once out front, Martin checked out while everyone jockeyed for position behind him. As things settled, it was KTM Orange Brigade rider Nolan Ford who slotted into second with JM Racing GASGAS’ Darren Pine in third.
Early on, Ford was the fastest rider on the track, which allowed him to close in on Martin, but the KTM rider was unable to sustain the pace and soon received pressure from behind. Pine eventually made the move for second and then one lap later, Ford lost third place to fellow KTM rider Gauge Brown. Back out front, Martin stabilized his advantage over Pine to complete one of the most impressive rides of opening day. He took the checkered flag four seconds ahead of Pine, followed by Brown in third. Ford ended up fourth, while RJR Motorsports KTM’s Ries Seeba was fifth.
