There is no doubt, when a rider from MXGP or AMA crosses the Atlantic to race, it creates big headlines and it is always good for both series. I think the biggest news story for such a swap-over was when Ryan Villopoto headed to MXGP in 2015 to race Antonio Cairoli.

Now, that season, starting in Doha in the middle east, was something that brought thousands of American fans to the MXGP series and the numbers for American fans watching MXGP has grown ever since.

Of course, the 2017 performance by Jeffrey Herlings at Ironman, where he dominated the likes of Eli Tomac, Marvin Musquin and many others, gave GP racing a lot of credit and still today, people talk about how "The Bullet" performed.

The Thunder Valley and Southwick appearances by the Coenen brothers did a similar thing, with thousands and thousands of Europeans signing up for the live streaming and I can tell you, I didn’t miss a beat, watching more AMA National action that I will do for the other rounds.

Even this weekend, you just know the whole motocross world will be watching the British GP and wondering first, if Sasha races and second, how the Coenen brothers do against the other MX2 and MXGP riders.

The brilliant coverage of Thunder Valley and Southwick and the respect shown to the two Belgian twins was first class and podcasts with Ricky Carmichael, Ryan Villopoto, James Stewart, Adam Cianciarulo and Justin Brayton gave the boys huge coverage.

While the GP vs AMA or Europe vs America is always a lot of fun, one thing is for sure, when they battle, the bench racing begins. Now, I know in the 1990s and 2000s, the American media and fans loved to pile on Europe, and rightly so. On many occasions, we got hammered and many of us are still getting over that 13-year run by Team USA and that 2007 MXoN at Budds Creek, when the GP riders really took a serious beating.

In turn, since 2012 at Lommel, for the MXoN, things turned around and the GP fans got to spray their anger on the Americans. It seems now though, that everyone is getting on, and the respect on both sides of the Atlantic is bigger than ever.

It isn’t a surprise that this current era, both in America and Europe, the fans are getting their moneys worth, with the Lawrence brothers, Coenen brothers, Jeffrey Herlings, Haiden Deegan, Jorge Prado and many more major stars and all either legends of the sport, or soon to be legends.

So, when the MXGP.tv coverage begins on Saturday, at the famous Foxhill circuit, sit back, enjoy some good racing and let’s hope both Sasha and Lucas have some success, because what they have done for the sport in the last couple of months, has been huge.
