Triumph factory rider, Camden McLellan has own the opening MX2 moto at the MXGP of China, after making his way past a bunch of riders and take the lead on lap 16 with a beautiful pass on early leader, Simon Langenfelder. Ray Archer image

Championship points are now Guillem Farres 834 points, Camden McLellan 789, Sacha Coenen 771pts, Simon Längenfelder 755pts, and Liam Everts 722pts. A nice 45 point lead for Farres over McLellan. The title fight is really between the two Triumph men.

MX2 Moto One

Langenfelder led the opening MX2 moto from Coenen, Mikula, McLellan, Everts, Farres, Karssemakers, Dennis, Janis Reisulis and Karlis Reisulis. Mikula goes down after colliding with McLellan, and Farres moved into third place in a nice little charge. Australian teenager, Byron Dennis holding down a very nice seventh spot.

Langenfelder and Coenen in a close battle for first place and the two Triumph men, Farres and McLellan also in close combat for third and fourth spots. Everts already 5.3 seconds back in fifth place. Dennis close to Karssemakers for sixth spot.

Lap six and not a lot of changes as the top five remained the same, as Grau and Zanchi moved into the top ten in ninth and 10th and Dennis losing ground on Karssemakers in sixth and seventh spots. Mikula a lot of mistakes and way down in 13th place.

Lap eight it was the same story as the previous laps, and a mistake by Dennis as he dropped to 8th place as Janis Reisulis moved into seventh spot. Grau a couple of seconds behind the young Aussie, but no doubt, GP isn’t an easy place to be in the second half of the moto, so expect the teenager to find more riders looking for a way past.

As is often the case with this circuit in China, the racing is close, but not a lot of passing, although Farres was all over the back wheel of Coenen for second place, with Langenfelder just 1.3 seconds ahead of those two. McLellan also close and Everts two seconds off the second Triumph rider.

A freight train of riders now as the top four are all rather close to each other and you have to feel that Farres is looking the strongest of the group. Dennis now seven seconds ahead of Grau and really showing the GP teams the teenager’s potential.

Farres burst into second by pushing Coenen wide and McLellan also passed the Belgian, but Coenen and McLellan swapping spots. A mistake by Dennis as Grau was now just three second off the Aussie youngster. Everts into fourth place with a pass on a fading Coenen.

McLellan and Farres in a huge battle for second place and the South African isn’t allowing his Spanish team-mate to get away in the points. Farres holding McLellan up, but both looking strong and on lap 15 McLellan passed his team-mate. Langenfelder now in trouble with the two Triumph boys all over him.

McLellan a beautiful pass on Langenfelder as the South African took the race lead on lap 16 and found a lot of speed to get away from the defending MX2 champion. Farres and Everts right onto Langenfelder for second spot. A mistake by Farres as he dropped to fourth place. McLellan wins the moto and makes sure Farres has to really fight until the end for a World MX2 championship.
