South African, Camden McLellan has won the Saturday MX2 qualification race in Australia and stopped his Triumph team-mate Guillem Farres from becoming World MX2 champion as Farres finished in fourth position and the points lead going into Sunday is now 45 points. Second in the moto was Janis Reisulis and Liam Everts finished third.

Lap one the lead was by Janis Reisulis, followed by McLellan, Everts, Dennis, Karlis Reisulis, Karssemakers, Farres, Grau, Paice and Coenen 10th, after the Belgian got stuck on the gate after trying to jump early.

Lap two it was Reisulis who still lead, with McLellan 2.6 seconds back, then Everts 5.6 back, then Karlis Reisulis, Farres, Karssemakers, Dennis, Grau, Coenen and Paice. Lap six and it was Janis Reisulis still with the lead, then McLellan, Everts, Farres, Karssemakers, Dennis, Karlis Reisulis, Coenen, Grau and Paice. McLellan rode into the lead and won the moto from Reisulis and Everts.
