Prado Story - Hard To Believe

Prado Story - Hard To Believe

This whole season for four time world motocross champion, Jorge Prado has been something I hope most of just delete from our memory. Such a great champion and for whatever reason, he has come out looking very bad.

Interviews where he has been backed into corners, said the wrong thing and clearly no agreeing with his factory Kawasaki team or the way they run it. In return, Kawasaki USA have held firm and given 100% to make the deal work, but probably also not being easy to work with.

I am not sure there was ever a moment that Prado and his new team were ever going to get along. Too similar in being stubborn maybe? Knowing from history, that seems to be the biggest component involved here.

The whole Prado and Team Spain story seems laughable. So, he is picked in the team, racing on a KTM, but is in a Kawasaki contract and expected to be allowed to race the orange bike. Does it get any crazier than that. Due to the horrible relationship between the two, who in their right mind would assume Kawasaki would agree to that?

I just hope the Prado/KTM thing happens again and we get the real Jorge Prado in 2026, either in Europe or America, because Jorge Prado, with the right machine and the right team, is as good as anyone in the World, apart from maybe Jett Lawrence.

If Prado returns to Europe, Prado vs Coenen vs Febvre vs Gajser vs Herlings and all the bike and team changes, makes for one hell of a season. A possible fifth world championship and 50th GP victory is something I think the whole world would enjoy seeing.

RacerX summed it up perfectly in their little story today.

And the plot thickens in the Jorge Prado/Monster Energy Kawasaki relationship, as Team Spain has announced its roster for the 2025 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, and Prado is not on it. The team press release explains it like this: “Finally, in the Open category, young Francisco García ‘Carbonero’ will make his debut, joining the team to cover for the last-minute withdrawal of Jorge Prado, who will not be able to participate due to his contractual situation with his current team.”What does this mean?

Following a rough summer in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, what we can surmise here is that Prado is trying to get out of his Kawasaki deal in time for this race and wanted to compete for Spain on another bike.

Considering the MXoN is under FIM rules, he could presumably even get back onto the works bike he won two MXGP FIM Motocross World Championships with, but in order to do that he needs to get out of his Monster Energy Kawasaki contract early and make a new deal with KTM, GasGas, or Husqvarna to get back on familiar Austrian equipment.

While we have definitely heard Prado and his camp are exploring options to leave Kawasaki and get back on European machinery, it looks like that is at least not happening in time for the ‘Nations.
