Prado Wins Saturday - MXGP
Red Bull GasGas factory rider Jorge Prado owned his opposition today with an easy victory in front of his beloved countrymen and is now nine points ahead of Tim Gajser in the championship points as the Slovenian finished third behind Prado and Jeffrey Herlings.
Jorge Prado: It was a good day and these conditions are not my favourite, the track is so hard and so many stones. I had to push for it and like I said, not my favourite track, but we are making it happen. P1 and we go for P1 tomorrow.
MXGP Qualifier
Prado led the MXGP qualifier from Herlings, Seewer, Forato, Fernandez, Gajser, Pancar, Renaux, Coldenhoff, Guillod in 10th. Gajser quickly moved past his team-mate to go into fifth. Herlings going after Prado, but the Spaniard looks amazing up front. Febvre back in 17th after being stuck on the start. Pancar down and dropping back quickly to 18th place.
Gajser moved past Forato and into fourth place, but he will struggle to get to Prado and Herlings up front. Fernandez a mistake and he dropped back to seventh spot. Top ten on lap one was Prado, Herlings, Seewer, Gajser, Forato, Renaux, Fernandez, Coldenhoff, Guillod and Bonacorsi. Febvre up to 14th and Lupino on the Ducati was 15th, he was also stuck on the start gate.
Lap three and the lead by Prado is 3.6 seconds over Herlings and Gajser in fourth is 5.7 seconds off the pace of the Spaniard. Gajser all over Seewer for third place, but hard track to pass on. Herlings nearly crashed but dropped some time on Prado. It was 3.8 seconds back, with Gajser in fourth 7.3 seconds off the leader. Gajser into third place and 6.5 seconds back now on Prado.
Lap seven the top ten was Prado, Herlings, Gajser, Seewer, Forato, Renaux, Fernandez, Coldenhoff, Guillod and Bonacorsi. Gajser a little out of control but saved what looked like a near crash. He needs points and he knows it.
Prado in complete control up front and was 3.7 ahead of Herlings and 7.9 ahead of Gajser. It might be a tough day for Gajser tomorrow. Herlings closed right up on Prado with the gap two seconds with two laps remaining. Herlings looking very nice as he was suddenly on the back wheel of Prado. Herlings looks like he might be playing the good (KTM/GasGas) team-mate as he slowed up and did a wheely passing the mechanics area. Prado wins it from Herlings and Gajser and extended his points lead to nine going into tomorrow.
