Roczen and Anstie Winners
Two veterans made it all happen in Argentina this morning, as German rider, Ken Roczen and British charger, Max Anstie have dominated the opening round of the 2025 World Supercross Championship with both riders going 1-1-1 in the three main events.
Roczen really showing he wants another WSX title, with his three victories and he heads into round two in Canada next weekend with a nice buffer on his rivals.
Second overall was American, Justin Cooper scored 5-2-2 finishes, with 450 rookie and American sensation, Haiden Deegan performing well in his 450 debut with 4-6-3. The points in the 450 class are now Roczen 45 points, Justin Cooper 37, Haiden Deegan 32 and Christian Craig 31.
For the electric bike, Stark Future, it was a tough night, with Jorge Zaragoza starting well with a 10th in the opening heat, he then went 15-14, while Vince Friese finishing with 16-16-DNS, and finished last in the overall points. Their 250 effort was slightly better with Micheal Hicks going 10-9-7 and Lance Kobusch finishing with 12-12-12.
Ken Roczen: I feel like I rode really well and there is a fine line between having the speed and then pushing too hard and making a mistake. The whoops, you crack the throttle five percent too much and because of the moisture, that is when it steps out. If you back it down a bit, you hit every single one. I was experimenting with it a little bit. Man, I had fun out there and I thought the track was awesome and my favourite part on the track, was actually the whoops.
Justin Cooper: Like Kenny was saying, got more slippery and you had to focus more. You had to be patient. I got two second starts and I enjoyed my time in Argentina.
Haiden Deegan: I was trying to learn this bike and I kept trying to learn throughout the day. I have dreamed of racing Ken Roczen since I was a little kid and I have photos of him and his jersey. Its a dream come true. I was like whatever gets thrown at my lets learn.
While in the 250 races, Anstie and his 1-1-1 was more than enough to beat his rivals, with the British rider being a class above everyone else. Second was Shane McElrath with 3-2-3 scores and third Cole Thompson with 4-4-4.
Max Anstie: Coming into these races, you cannot underestimate anyone. I knew coming here, there is great competition, and I have to be on my game every single lap. It was tricky, it was slick and with the amount of rain we had on Friday, it was perfect. It was as good as it was going to be. I just executed, hit my marks and that was that. Every time I come here – I’ve been here for a couple of MXGPs back in the day – and man, the fans in Argentina are the best in the world. So thank you – it was a great night.”
Anstie’s main threat to the title is Shane McElrath. The Quad Lock Honda rider finished the round in second place. The American told of his night.
Shane McElrath: It was a lot of work tonight – a lot harder than it should have been. We came in prepared, but we still have work to do. The team has been putting in a lot of time, and we’re going to get back to it. We’ll be back next weekend in Canada. It was some hard racing tonight. The track was really technical. There weren’t a lot of lines, and they were slippery.”
