Roczen Wins Aussie WSX GP
In front of a huge crowd in Gold Coast, Australia, Ken Roczen has won the Australian WSX GP ahead of Christian Craig and Cooper Webb. While it was far from a perfect night for the German went 1-4-3 for the victory, but everyone else were even less impressive. It was a crazy night of supercross racing with the best supercross races swapping positions throughout the night. Craig went 3-9-1 and Webb 4-1-6.
Ken Roczen: I mean, a lot of hard work. We have always been good off the gate, but with this dirt, its really tough and only seconds in it. People were cross jumping, but this was good practice, making passes from the back, which I have done all weekend. I believe I am riding better than ever. I am a more rounded racer and comfortable in my own skin and making good decisions.
Christian Craig: It means a lot for sure. I can give you a lot of stories as to why I shouldn't be racing here, but I just beat some legends and I know Haiden a long time. I had a tough second moto, but rebounded in that last one. The whole team has been great and they believe in me and I was in some crappy situations, but these people want me in their team. People I thought were close to me, this one is for you.
Cooper Webb: It was overall a good night. I got the win in the second one, but I didn't get the start in the last one and I didn't execute. I went into the last race with a chance to win it all, I am a little bummed with myself, but the racing was great and I loved being here. We will take the podium, but now we will get to our domestic series.
Haiden Deegan: I am going to say this, I am battling Eli Tomac and I was like a small kid, telling myself, I am battling Eli Tomac, I just passed Eli Tomac, I just passed Eli Tomac. We fought hard and it was awesome.
Christian Craig won the final race of the Australian WSX GP with a stunning performance, winning the race ahead of Deegan and Roczen. Tomac seemed to be struggling somewhat on his KTM machine.
Tomac led the third SX1 race with Deegan second and Roczen way back in the pack, with Webb also way back. Tomac a nice lead and Craig all over Deegan and into second place, but Deegan making a nice pass, but Craig back into second. Aranda in fourth, then Savatgy, Roczen, Friese, Webb, Politelli and Breece 10th.
Craig makes a block pass on Tomac and takes the lead, with Deegan not that far back. Craig opened his lead over Tomac with Deegan a similar distance back in third, then Aranda, Savatgy, Webb, Roczen, Friese, Politelli and Breece.
Roczen all over Savatgy and Aranda, with Webb also in the battle for fourth place. Roczen into fourth with some great passes. Deegan moved past Tomac and the spectators are just going wild. Deegan going after Craig.
Deegan getting away from Tomac but struggling to catch Craig for the lead. The lead by Craig was 4.5 seconds over Deegan and the veteran American won the final race, from Deegan and Roczen, who passed Tomac late.
