Sanders Strong in Morocco
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Daniel Sanders has brought home second overall at the final round of the 2025 FIM World Rally-Raid Championship in Morocco, wrapping up his world title-winning season on a high. Teammate Edgar Canet delivered a standout performance at the Rallye du Maroc, placing fifth overall and comfortably topping his class to secure the FIM Rally-Raid World Cup for Rally2 Pilots. Luciano Benavides unfortunately crashed out on stage one of the event but will return to action at the Dakar Rally next January.
With the championship already clinched one round earlier in Portugal, Sanders entered the Rallye du Maroc focused on maintaining his momentum and supporting the team’s development ahead of Dakar. A third place on the opening prologue was then followed by victory on stage one. The remaining four days of racing saw Sanders locked in an intensely fought battle for the rally lead with closest rival Tosha Schareina.
Going into the final day, Daniel trailed Schareina by less than three minutes, but despite his best efforts and giving his all across the challenging Moroccan terrain, he wasn’t quite able to clinch the win. Completing the fifth and final round of the season in second, ‘Chucky’ capped off his record-breaking season with another strong podium. Of the 37 stages raced this year, Sanders topped the timesheets in no fewer than 16 of them – an incredible accomplishment that is testament to his skill, determination, and the performance of the KTM 450 RALLY.
Daniel Sanders: “Obviously, I’m happy to finish the race here in Morocco safely and on the podium, but I’m a little disappointed not to have taken the win. After wrapping the championship up in Portugal, I really wanted to focus on this race and do my best. I’m riding good, I know that, and when I’m riding good, I’m fast – I just need to clean up my mistakes. It’s good to get a bit of a wake-up call, and now ahead of Dakar, I know there are things I need to work on with myself. We’ve got a couple of months to get motivated now and I know what I need to do to improve. It’s not just the physical side for me; it’s the mental side as well, and I want to be ready for Dakar. The season has been incredible and I can’t thank the team enough for everything they have done to get me here. The goal now is to reward them with another win in Saudi next January.”
In the Rally2 class, Edgar Canet showcased the speed and maturity that have defined his 2025 campaign. The young Spaniard fought hard across all stages, ultimately securing the overall Rally2 victory in Morocco and confirming himself as the 2025 Rally2 World Cup Champion aboard his KTM 450 RALLY.
With the exception of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, where he crashed out on stage one, Canet has dominated the Rally2 category in 2025, winning every single round. The 20-year-old now looks ahead to the 2026 Dakar Rally, where he hopes to improve on his eighth-place overall result from 2025.
Edgar Canet: “It feels good to finish the Rallye du Maroc, and what a way to finish an incredible season with a win in Rally2 and to take the world title. I’m super-happy for the team and super-happy for KTM – they have all put in so much to get us here. I’m really looking forward to where we can go from here. The plan now is to keep pushing, keep training, and of course, keep learning. Heading into Dakar, I want to beat my result from this year and then into next season, I want to be fighting for the overall.”
Coming into the Rallye du Maroc, Red Bull KTM’s Luciano Benavides was lying second in the W2RC standings and looked set for a strong finish to his 2025 season. Completing the prologue just five seconds behind teammate Sanders, the Argentinian was feeling confident ahead of the first full stage. Unfortunately, a crash early in stage one ruled him out of the remainder of the event. Thankfully, Benavides sustained no serious injuries and is now fully focused on recovery and preparation ahead of the 2026 Dakar Rally, where he’ll aim to return stronger than ever.
In addition to the titles earned by Sanders and Canet, KTM also secured the prestigious FIM World Rally-Raid Manufacturer World Championship – a fitting conclusion to a dominant season at the pinnacle of rally-raid competition. Across every terrain, the KTM 450 RALLY proved its race-bred performance and unmatched reliability, powering Red Bull KTM Factory Racing to multiple stage wins, overall victories, and three world titles.
Andreas Hölzl – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Rally Team Manager: “What a season! I’m so happy with how the whole team performed this season and to come away winning everything is incredible. From the Dakar win to Daniel’s world championship, Edgar in Rally2, and of course, the manufacturer title – we simply couldn’t have hoped for a better year. As always, we never stop pushing and we’re already looking ahead to the Dakar again early next year. The bike is working so well, the team are backing that up with everyone working so hard. Daniel has been incredible this year, with so many stage wins, and he continues to aim to better himself and become even more dominant. Edgar has put in a fantastic season to win the Rally2 World Cup, and for next year he will contest the RallyGP class for the first time. But as we have already seen this season, he’s more than capable of playing with the big boys. Luciano has done a great job all season too and was running second in the championship coming into this final round. We wish him all the best and are very optimistic that he’ll be back on the bike soon and back to 100 percent. Over the whole course of this season, the team have come together to dominate – from the older, more experienced members to the younger ones, bringing new energy. The riders know this and without the work of the full team, none of this would be possible, so I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who makes this possible.”
Next Event: Red Bull KTM Factory Racing now shift their focus to the 2026 Dakar Rally, set to take place in Saudi Arabia from January 3–17.
