Sasha Coenen - Little Charger
Sometimes it is easy to forget how good Sasha Coenen is going to be. The diminutive Belgian teenager won last week in Latvia and holds down fifth place in the MX2 championship points, but for many reasons, his potential isn’t really noticed just yet.
It was his third Grand Pric victory, and he has finished 8th and 6th in the MX2 World standings in 2023 and 2024, and is now placed top five, so, despite a lot of critics, his progress has been good. At 18 years of age, he is still one of the youngest riders in the MX2 class.
A lot of the lack of respect, has to do with the success of his twin brother Lucas, who has been sensational in 2024 and 2025 and put his little/twin brother a little in the shadows, but be sure, anyone who knows the sport, knows that Sasha will come good once he starts to get rid of the mistakes.
In fact, long before the two brothers started winning GPs, it was Sasha that everyone said was the better of the two brothers, similar to what they said about Jett and Hunter Lawrence a handful of years ago in Europe.
Sasha has 389 points and is 30 points behind fellow Belgian, Liam Everts in the championship points, but a massive 126 points behind series leader, Simon Langenfelder. Below are the last three GP performances and comments from the little Belgian charger.
Latvia - 1st and 2nd for 1st overall: “Very happy. Two good starts, and two solid motos after a crash on Saturday and we are getting back some of the consistency. We cannot complain! The goal is to keep going like this and keep at the front.”
Germany - 2nd and 15th for 8th overall: “The first moto was quite good: holeshot and 2nd place. Second moto another holeshot and rode good for almost the whole way but the back-end slid away on the take-off of the triple and I ended up in the fence. We’ll keep the positives: we had great starts. The GP victory was almost there and that makes us even more motivated for Latvia.”
France - 6th and 4th for 3rd overall: “Being back on the podium is good but the results – 6-4 – are not really what I’m working for. I want 1st place…but we’ll take this today. We’ll continue to try and improve the speed.”
