  • Race Report

Red Bull KTM factory rider Sasha Coenen has won the Saturday MX2 qualifier at the MXGP of Switzerland. The Belgian youngster took the lead on the opening lap and never let it go. Second was Camden McLellan on the Triumph factory machine and third was HRC factory rider, Valerio Lata.

Sasha Coenen: For sure I was under pressure and Camden was riding good. The track was sketchy and I made a good decision with the goggles. I made a gap and felt good, and the rain made it difficult.

Championship points are now Camden Mc Lellan 108 points, Simon Längenfelder 104pts, Sacha Coenen 88 pts, Guillem Farres 84pts and Mathis Valin 82 pts.

MX2 Qualification Race

In drizzling rain and very cold conditions, Valin led the MX2 qualifier but then crashed soon after. Coenen then led, from Lata, McLellan, Farres, Langenfelder, Everts, Valk, and Zancz 10th. Gunderson into 10th place and Janis Reisulis also into the top ten, in ninth and 10th respectively.

Farres a mistake and dropped back to around 20th place and the top ten was then Coenen, Lata, McLellan, Langenfelder, Valk, Everts, Zancz, Janis Reisulis, Karssemakers and Mikula 10th. Valin was 12th and Farres 16th.

Lap four the lead by Coenen was a bike length as Lata had caught up to the Belgian, with McLellan some 3.6 seconds back in third place. Valin into the top ten and Farres up to 13th place. Everts crashed on lap six and dropped back through the field.

McLellan catching the two guys ahead and Valin into 8th place and riding very well. Everts remounted in sixth place and McLellan all over Lata for second place, with Coenen maybe two seconds ahead. McLellan a mistake and lost ground to Lata.

McLellan again on the back wheel of Lata and looking for that extra point in the championship. Coenen more than two seconds ahead of those two. Valin into seventh and Farres also charging back, in 8th place. McLellan into second place and just 1.4 behind Coenen now.

Valin moved up another spot as he passed Reisulis and the Frenchman on the Kawasaki into fifth place. Everts all over Reisulis and Farres right onto those two. Everts into sixth place and Farres also passed the Latvian youngster.

Some late race pressure from McLellan as he started pushing Coenen, but the Belgian held it together for the win. McLellan was second and Lata third.
