So, with six rounds remaining in the 2024 MXGP championship, let us look at how the championship has been from the last six rounds, in Kegums, Maggiora, Lombok, Lombok, Loket and Lommel. Two sand tracks and four hard pack, with the two Indonesian rounds not as hard pack as Maggiora and Loket, showing that we raced in very different circuits over that period, and we will get a similar mixture in the next six rounds.

Jeffrey Herlings - On The Move

The big mover in these last six rounds has obviously been Jeffrey Herlings, who entering Latvia on 336pts, and 66 points down on the red plate of Jorge Prado and 64 points back from Tim Gajser. On Saturday motos “The Bullet” has gone 6-2-1-1-3-2 for a total of 51points. Sunday motos Herlings has gone 1-3-3-1-1-2-1-1-1-4-1-1 for 280 points. Total points gained over the last six rounds 331 points.

Tim Gajser - Red Plate Owner

Tim Gajser entering Latvia on 400 points and was second to Prado in the championship points, just two points behind, 402 vs 400. On Saturday motos the Slovenian had finished with 1-1-3-2-1-3 for 55points, while Sunday motos his finishes were 2-2-1-2-3-5-2-2-3-1-5-4 for 250 points. Total points gained in last six rounds has been 305 points.

Jorge Prado - Up and Down

Jorge Prado entering Latvia was the red plate owner and was on 402 points. Two points ahead of Gajser and 66 points ahead of Herlings. On Saturday motos the Spaniard has finished 2-6-2-4-2-1 for 49 points, while Sunday motos it was 7-1-2-DNF-2-1-4-5-2-2-2-2 for 230 points. Total points gained in last six rounds 279 points.

The Change

So, in the last six rounds, Herlings has scored 331 points, Gajser 305 and Prado 279. And thus, we now have Gajser leading the points over Prado by 24 points, and Herlings 38 points behind the red plate of the HRC man.

What you can see is that while Prado had a rough time in Maggiora due to DNFing at no real fault of his own, he also struggled somewhat in Latvia and in the second Indonesia round, but has come back strong in Loket and Lommel, with 2-2-2-2-1-2-2 from the six motos run. It might be possible he had a mid-season funk, due to his long season, having not really rested in the winter, but has now recovered and ready to get back on track, in dominant fashion, like at the start of the season.

Herlings has of course been the form rider since Latvia, scoring 26 points more than Gajser (although a majority of that came last weekend in Lommel) and a massive 52 points more than Prado. He is without doubt on a typical Herlings charge and while the HRC and GasGas teams might not enjoy it, I think the majority of motocross fans are loving it and the reason Herlings is so popular.

As for Gajser, those fifth-place moto finishes in Indonesia I and Lommel are not that bad, and he has still scored more points than either Prado or Herlings on Saturday and obviously gained a lot of points on Prado over that six rounds, but Herlings is in his rear vision mirror and coming up fast.

Can Gajser return to his solid podium finishes and those long list of second place moto finishes, of which he has 17 from the 42 motos run. I tip him to win in Sweden, but will it be enough to stop that Herlings charge, or Prado returning to his best? And that is why they race.

I guess, the next six rounds will answer our questions and I sure am excited to see how it all turns out, as I am sure you all are.
