A brilliant weekend for five time World champion Tim Gajser as he pulled the momentum away from Jorge Prado and Jeffrey Herlings and has put himself in a great position to win his sixth World motocross championship. A handful of top three finishes in the final three rounds and the championship is his.
Tim Gajser: “it's starting to be crucial, you know, like we are going towards the end of the championship, just three rounds to go. I lost some ground in Lommel and also in Arnhem. But anyway, I'm really looking forward to the tracks that we are going now. But today I felt really good, two solid starts, quick passes, let's say, make a little gap and then control the race. I was really enjoying out there. The track was not easy, so you have to be smart and also pick the right lines. But yeah, we're all super happy. I want to say a huge thank you to all my team, everybody around me, all the fans. Thank you very much! "
Jeffrey Herlings: “Both times once I got the second, the bird was gone. I had the speed, I had the speed all day to win, but it doesn't bring me anything, you know! So anyway, two-two on a track, I'd say I don't fancy so much, it's not too bad. So, no, I mean, this is the track last year I struggled the most and now this year I felt like my bike setup was much better my riding was good I was really at good speed so yeah just couldn't get out of start like almost always so you know it is like it is but looking forward to Turkey and China I think those tracks for the inside gates will suit me a bit better so looking forward to them”
Jorge Prado: “It was a tough day for me. I struggled with my health in race 1 and obviously race 2 was a bit better, let's say health-wise, struggling still with the leg also that hurt in race one too. I don't know today just everything was hard for me just fighting through myself. And if I need to battle these guys and I'm not 100% it's hard to beat them. So it's a pity we lost some points, but three rounds left. Let's get back to 100% healthy and let's get a championship.”
Kay de Wolf: “The second race wasn't as easy as the first one. The first few guys were really fast and I was struggling with my pace a little bit but I brought it home safe and gained some massive points in the championship. So that's what it's all about and yeah, I'm really happy. I can't do it without this team. They do an amazing job for me day in day out. So yeah, I really appreciate it and now on to the next one in Turkiye!”
Simon Laengenfelder: “It's nice to bounce back after a bad weekend like this. Okay, not the best start but at least the riding was really good in the second race. I was really happy to get the Moto win and happy with the bike. I’m now looking forward to the last few races this season.”
Liam Everts: “I certainly didn't make it easy you know also last rounds; the speed was really good but just some little tip overs. And again, today but I still managed to make it happen which is which is pretty cool. I felt great all weekend. I also want to say hi to my parents, it's the first time that they missed a round!”
Maxime Renaux: "A sixth place for my comeback, that’s pretty okay. Obviously I’m most satisfied about my starts. Two holeshots. Awesome. The riding was not too bad either. The five first laps I could keep up smoothly but then I felt that I miss some competition rhythm. That’s logical of course. Moreover I was ill, I had fever. But that’s not an excuse. I just need some more practice hours on the bike. So I know what to do the next weeks."
Mattia Guadagnini: "I felt that my riding was strong this weekend, but unfortunately, the results didn’t quite reflect that. Despite the challenges, I managed two strong comeback races in the mud, particularly in the second moto where I posted some solid lap times. Coming from 36th to 13th was definitely a highlight. However, I’m not satisfied with the overall result - it’s not where I want to be, especially since I was hoping for a better outcome on a hard-packed surface, which I’m more accustomed to. My starts made things more difficult this weekend, and the big crash with another rider on the first lap of the second moto set me back quite a bit. We’ve got three more chances before the end of the season, so I need to make the most of them!"
Andrea Bonacorsi: “I was consistent this weekend so that was good. The first race was ok, not the best start and then I dropped back a little bit, but after repassing people I crashed and lost the places again so I ended up 12th. My start in the second moto was much better, just inside the top 10 and it was a really big battle and I finished 10th for 10th overall. It was a decent weekend, but I want more so the hard work continues ahead of Turkey in two weeks.”
Lucas Coenen: "This weekend had some ups and downs for me. In the RAM Qualifying Race, I am very happy with my performance. From the start, I was in front and stayed there for all 14 laps. It was good to feel in control and to lead the race, especially with strong riders like Kay and Simon behind me. The first moto was more difficult. I finished 8th, which is not what I hoped for, but I kept pushing and stayed competitive. In the second moto, I had some troubles and had to fight hard to keep my position. I am proud that I could recover and keep going. Overall, finishing 7th in the GP is not where I want to be, but there are still some races left. I will keep working hard to get better results."
Mikkel Haarup: “It’s been a really challenging weekend with the track and conditions here in Switzerland. I finished fifth overall, which is ok but of course being on the podium would have been better. There were some great battles in both races today and now we look ahead to Turkey for the next round.”
Romain Febvre: "The result is what it is, but again today I didn't have a really good feeling. In the second moto I was fighting for the lead, but I took a stone in my face when I was behind Prado and that split open my lip. I hope that I will not have such a weekend again in the future, especially if we are fighting for the championship."
Camden McLellan: “This weekend has been a bit difficult for me as my starts weren’t the best. In the first race I spun on the grate but then in the second one I got caught up in a first turn pile-up. Besides that, though, I felt super-fit on the bike and I just need to work hard on the hardpack tracks ahead of Turkey as that’s a similar track to here. And my starts as well so that I can stay out of trouble early on in each race.”
Jago Geerts: "Bad luck keeps following me. I could not get away when that rider crashed in front of me, I hit him, crashed and got my bike on me. Result: several abrasions and burns. However those injuries were not the reason for my withdrawal. I could have ridden but mentally I’m a bit down after all these setbacks. That serious elbow injury, the surgeries, the difficult rehabilitation... And now this. It’s just too much for me. Now I first have to clear my head. There is a big chance that I will not ride a Grand Prix anymore this year."
Ruben Fernandez: I’m pretty happy with how today, considering it was my first race back after a long time. My speed was good, and if it wasn’t for a coming-together in the first moto, I’m sure I could have been fighting for a top 10 in both races. I was able to lead some laps yesterday and that was great and this gives me a great platform to build upon in the last three rounds of the season, on tracks which hopefully I like a bit more than this one.
Ferruccio Zanchi: Two top 10 results, my best moto finish of the season – sixth - and the joint-highest GP points tally I’ve had this year, so I have to be happy with this weekend. Getting that sixth was really good and gives me confidence that I am closing the gap to the top guys, so now I need to try and do that in both races. These next three rounds will all be new tracks for me, but I’m excited for them and hoping to keep up the progress.
Ivo Monticelli: ‘All weekend I had a good feeling with the track and the bike. On Saturday I finished qualifying in seventeenth position. Unfortunately, a rider hit me in the back when landing from a jump leaving me quite sore. In the first race I started very well but struggled to get into a rhythm in the first few laps. While I was 14th I had to stop and change my goggles and finished in 20th position. In the second heat I started well again but at the first corner I crashed after contact with an opponent. When I restarted, I immediately realised that something had happened to the bike. After a good comeback I was forced to stop because the technical problem became worse. The past races had not gone as I would have liked and after this weekend, we can only take what we did well in Switzerland and put it to good use in the final GPs of the season.’
Glenn Coldenhoff: “I felt really good on Saturday, the pace was there and I had a good feeling. The rain came overnight and the track was completely different, and I didn’t feel as good on Sunday as I did the day before. I didn’t quite have the pace and finished seventh in race 1. My start was really good in race 2, I could hold on in the beginning but I rode a little bit too tight and lost a few positions. Unfortunately, my chain came off and we ended the weekend with a DNF. I think I hit a stone in a deep rut and that was it. It is such a shame because I was getting closer to the top 5 in the championship. We could have gained a lot of points but it didn’t go to plan. Luckily, we have a weekend off now. I will also get some treatments as I hit my shoulder and ribs in a crash on Saturday. We will prepare in the best possible way for Turkey and I hope to finish the season strong. I will keep fighting and we will keep working together with the team and Fantic. I am still aiming for that podium, we don’t give up, we keep working hard and we keep believing, which is the most important.”
Brian Bogers: “Well, what can I say? It was a struggle all weekend long. I wanted to push, but somehow, I just couldn’t manage it. Even though the track isn’t one of my favorites, you need to be good on any track. That is what I always keep in mind. For example, in Maggiora, another difficult track for me, I had one of my best races so far. This weekend was one of the most challenging. Of course, I made it very difficult for myself with a bad gate pick. The track is quite tight, I was struggling – when you put everything together, it just wasn’t good enough in the end. I think we actually found a good setup for the bike, but from my side, it wasn’t as good as I had hoped. We will keep our heads up and try again next time.”
