Team Belgium - MXoN
There is now some confusion about what Team Belgium will look like at the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations in the first week of October, at the Matterley Basin circuit in England.
With Liam Everts suffering a neck injury today and Sacha Coenen missing the trip to the orient to focus on recovery from his upper thigh problem, some doubts are now sure about those two racing at the 2024 MXoN.
Everts battled for the top three in the first MX2 moto and was narrowly beaten to the line by championship leader Kay de Wolf. In the second moto he crashed awkwardly after a mid-race tangle and needed hospital treatment for a cervical injury. The extent of the damage and Liam’s planned recouperation will be updated through KTM Factory Racing social media channels, but it seems unlikely he would be ready to race at Matterley Basin in three weeks’ time.
Following a bad crash early in the second race, Liam was taken to the hospital, where it was confirmed that his 5th cervical vertebra (neck) is fractured. He’s regaining feeling in his arms and legs. We’re currently waiting for more updates.
As Jago Geerts mentioned to us a month or so ago, he was not selected in the team, but would race if given the right amount of time to prepare and while Brent Van Doninck missed the Chinese GP due to contracting Covid in Turkey, he will be a good replacement for Everts, with Geerts more than likely racing the MX2 class at the MXoN.
We will have more news as it is announced, and it seems the team information will be known in the coming week. More than likely Lucas Coenen, Jago Geerts and Brent Van Doninck, in our opinion.
