The Tracks - 2021
Posted on November 18, 2020
As you do, I was checking out the tracks for 2021 and I have to admit, I am super excited for the diversity of the tracks, and also the fact we have a handful of new tracks on the Calendar. Of course, those are Barka in Oman, Oss in Holland, Jakarta in Indonesia, Iitti-KimiRing in Finland, Igora Drive in Russia.
So below is a gallery of some of the tracks. We put Mantova down as the Italian TBA second round, because MXGP have the Mantova circuit on their website, making me believe that Mantova will be the second round.
What we don’t have are the two road racing circuits in Finland and Russia, but we do have images of the road racing facilities to give you an idea of the area.
Oss, Holland: A brilliant facility on the side of the freeway in the middle of the always beautiful country of The Netherlands. Lovely sand and expect some great racing around this old school circuit.
Orlyonok, Russia: Never been here, but just look at the image. It is hard-pack, and as Shaun Simpson said in his interview today, this is a great circuit with a lot of undulation. Another amazing spot for the MXGP championship.
Loket, Czech Republic: As old school as you get and a beauty for the people who love not only a great old circuit, but a really nice area on the Czech Republic.
Neuquen, Argentina: I look at this circuit and just wish we could start there. Just look at that circuit built by Greg Atkins in the countryside of Patagonia.
Mantova, Italy: Not a lot of undulation, but a really good track is Mantova. Had some great pre-season races and also some great GPs. Mantova is also a nice old city.
Lommel, Belgium: Built in the middle of an industrial area, and not the best for viewing, but Lommel is a classic, holding two MXdN events and a long list of GPs in recent years.
Iitti-KimiRing, Finland: We won't know what area this circuit will be, but what Antti Pyrhonen told us is that it will be a sand circuit and close to the MotoGP paddock.
Igora Drive, Russia: Another road racing facility and it looks like a lot of room for the motocross track, and from this image, you get the feeling it is again sand. Time will tell.
Imola, Italy: I can't wait for this one, and despite people complaining about this being the circuit for the MXoN, but it will be awesome. Expect one of the biggest MXoN crowds ever for this one.
Kegums, Latvia: My favourite stop in Europe and this little circuit in the nature of Latvia is not only a great design, it also creates good racing.
Afyonkarahisar, Turkey: One of the newest circuits on the calendar this one in the middle of Turkey remains a facility that is growing on the MXGP paddock and another exotic stop for the paddock people.
China: Not sure if the GP will be held at this facility, but I sure hope so. I loved our visit to China in 2019 and can't wait to get back in 2021. Looks a bit boring on the image, but it was a brilliant track and layout for a GP.
St Jean d’Angely, France: Typically French, this old school circuit is everything you expect from a Grand Prix track and continues to share the French GP with another classic in Ernee.
Intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos, Spain: I haven't attended his event yet, but look forward to going when this whole COVID 19 stuff is over. Heard great things and the action looked good from the comfort of my couch.
Uddevalla, Sweden: Another old school circuit and a special place with everything you need to make a weekend a lot of fun. The Swedes have seen a lot of action from this place.
Teutschenthal, Germany: Another of the circuits has has held MXoN, and massive laps of MXGP action. Like so many of the circuits in 2021, this one is worth a visit.
Agueda, Portugal: Old school again and that bright red clay in Portugal is a racers favourite. Another great spot with great action and good night life.
Semarang, Indonesia: Another Greg Atkins built masterpiece and for sure worth a visit if you can afford it. Hot, hard-pack and a real tough day for the riders. The local crowd arrive for this one and they really add to the vibe of this fly-away.
