Tom Vialle - Defending in 2021
Posted on February 20, 2021
Just two years into his professional career, defending World MX2 champion Tom Vialle is very much a rider with a bright future, that is obvious. How good he can be, we don’t know yet, but he starts to look very much like former two-time MX2 champion Jorge Prado, and if he wins this years World MX2 championship, he will join Prado in MXGP and going by the style of Vialle and hopefully with a slightly stronger frame, he will be like Prado and run up front in the 450 class pretty quickly.
Vialle is the latest super-talented young French motocross racer to take the sport by storm and secured the 2020 FIM MX2 World Motocross Championship crown in only his second season in the series. Vialle got his first taste of two-wheeled action as a result of seeing his pro rider father, Frederic, compete in Supercross, which inspired the youngster to take up riding, too.
Fast forward to 2018 and Vialle had become a fully fledged rider with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team. The 18-year-old earned his place alongside world champion Jorge Prado on the factory KTM 250 SX-F after catching the eye with four podium finishes in the 2018 EMX250 European Championship, which included victory in the MXGP of Russia, and he continued his rich vein of form after that with even more impressive displays.
Vialle’s first season in the MX2 World Championship (2019) finished with a superb fourth place overall, which secured him the rookie of the year award, but from the start of the 2020 series it was clear that he was the man to beat in MX2 and racked up no less than seven Grand Prix wins on his way to winning the MX2 world title, his first, at only his second attempt. We're certain there's more to come.
