Tom Vialle - Fighting in USA

As World MXGP champion Jorge Prado is finding out, moving to race in America isn't as easy as one might think. A different lifestyle, circuits, bikes and just about everything else has Prado in a spin, and hopefully he comes out of it eventually and can gain the speed he has shown in Europe.

For Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle the journey is a little longer and he has the chance to race in the 250 class, has picked up some indoor and outdoor overall wins, but is still fighting hard to get to the very top of the pile.

Trying to be consistent is the main goal you would imagine and try and build some confidence and momentum as he still tries to work out the system and with the knowledge, that his factory bike in Europe, is probably a lot better than his bike in USA and teams like Star Racing Yamaha and Pro Circuit Kawasaki are a little tougher than the teams in Europe.

Vialle posted a consistent performance at the third round of 250MX competition last weekend, with 6-5 scores, to finish on a deteriorating track was enough for fourth overall, and an important haul of championship points.

"I ended up with fourth overall today, which wasn't ideal because I just wasn’t feeling it on the track. I was running third in each of the motos, then ended sixth in the first one after a small crash, followed by P5 in Moto 2. I just didn’t have the feel that I needed all day, so we’ll keep working for next weekend in High Point and make some improvements.”

At the second round in Hangtown the double world champion rebounded to an eighth-place finish in Moto 2 despite being impacted by a poor gate pick, salvaging a haul of valuable championship points.

"Not the weekend I expected. I was running fourth in Moto 1, and then I had a crash about four laps in and couldn’t finish the moto, unfortunately. I hurt my elbow pretty badly, but we lined up for the second race and I had last gate pick because of the first race. I got a bad start and then came back to eighth, so I salvaged some points towards the championship.”

In the opening round Vialle scored a podium finish and had to make a lot of passes on a track the Frenchman doesn't like. Having with a podium, he was looking for a higher spot on the podium.

"I had a great start in the second Moto, although the first one I started actually pretty far back. I passed a lot of riders in that one, and the track was very tricky – it’s not my favorite track of the year here, so it’s nice to be on the podium. Obviously, third place isn’t where we want to be, but it’s still nice to start the season on the podium.”

Now onto round four and the High Point National. Another of the amazing circuits and venues, but still in USA and still something of a challenge for the two time World MX2 champion.
