Defending SX1 World Champion Eli Tomac has spoken about riding for his new team at the Canadian GP. Tomac says he feels at home already on his new bike as he makes his debut for KTM in today’s World Supercross Canadian GP.

Tomac joined the Austrian-based company after cutting ties with Yamaha to sign for KTM, with whom he had battled for the majority of his racing career in the SX1 class.

However, the 33-year-old, who is a two-time AMA 450cc Supercross champion, four-time AMA 450cc Motocross champion, and defending World Supercross SX1 Champion, says that despite all his experience, he is still getting butterflies in his stomach as he starts his career with KTM.

He said: “I had some serious butterflies the first few laps [during practice], I’ll tell you that. But it’s very exciting to get out there. This is a nice floor space to race on, the track is big, it’s technical. It’s not overly crammed or anything.

“I’ve got some butterflies, I’ve got to try to get those out and have a good time. So far, so good. Of course, we’re in the honeymoon stage right now, but it’s nice to be around the team and see the guys they’ve worked with and what they’ve accomplished.

“It’s fun to work with them because I’ve been such rivals with them my whole career. Especially my 450 career, so it’s good.

“I’ve been really comfortable with on this bike is the cockpit. Where the bar’s at, the seat, all the sitting on it. It just fits me well. I don’t know. For me, it feels right when I sit on that bike.”
