With the MXGP World champion, Jorge Prado racing this seasons AMA Nationals, and all the talk of the Coenen brothers racing this weekend (unfortunatelt, was never going to happen), we thought it might be an idea to check back when GP vs AMA was in a really beautiful era, with both series close to being the toughest ever.

Of course the 1980's was the golden era of 500cc motocross in Europe, with Dave Thorpe, Eric Geboers, Andre Malherbe, and so many more, against the might of America, Ricky Johnson, Jeff Ward, David Bailey and again, so many more.

What a sensational USGP this was. I was fortunate enough to attend the 500cc USGP in 1994 at this same circuit in Carlsbad, California and what a brilliant race this was. Great memories for all us old blokes.
