Vialle Wins Again in Lommel

Posted on October 21, 2020

Red Bull KTM factory rider Tom Vialle proved too smart once again as he scored a 2-1 victory at the Grand Prix in Lommel, after race one winner Jago Geerts spend the day picking himself up from the dark sand of Lommel. Geerts was once again the quickest guy, but mistakes cost him a GP victory.

“For me it is incredible,” Vialle said. “I rode the second moto good and then Jago made a mistake and I said to myself now I need to win. I mean, the start in the second moto wasn’t good and Jago pushed me on the outside of the track. I knew when Jago passed Roan I also needed to pass and then Jago made a big crash.”

Ben Watson of the Monster Energy Yamaha team finished second overall with 2-3 scores with his team-mate Jago Geerts in third overall with 1-7.

In the championship points it is Vialle with 616 points and Geerts 555 points. So a 61 point lead with four GPs remaining for the Frenchman.

Van De Moosdijk took the lead early in the second MX2 moto, from Geerts, Gifting, Vialle, Forato, Renaux, Fernandez, Olsen, Vaessen, Watson in 10th. A lap in and the lead by Van De Moosdijk was 1.1 seconds from Geerts, then came Vialle, Gifting, Renaux, Fernandez, Olsen, Watson, Vaessen and Ostlund in 10th.

Watson again on the charge as he passed Olsen, and into seventh place. Geerts was all over Van De Moosdijk for the lead and the Belgian and Dutchman having a good old GP battle. After five laps it was Van De Moosdijk, Geerts, Vialle, Gifting, Renaux, Watson, Fernandez, Olsen, Vaessen and Ostlund 10th.

Van De Moosdijk was passed by Geerts and then Vialle did the same, then suddenly Geerts went down and Vialle was again the man waiting for that mistake to happen. After nine laps Vialle held a five second lead over Van De Moosdijk, then came Gifting, Watson, Olsen, Geerts, Vaessen, Fernandez, Ostlund in 10th.

After 12 laps it was Vialle with a 10 second lead over Van De Moosdijk, then Watson, Renaux, Gifting, Olsen, Geerts, Vaessen, Ostlund and Fernandez in 10th. Watson was all over Van De Moosdijk for second place as he rode this “home” GP to perfection. Vialle wins it from Watson and Van De Moosdijk
