Vialle Wins Moto One - Trentino

Posted on October 24, 2021

Red Bull KTM factory rider Tom Vialle continues to show he is the man in the MX2 class, despite not having a real shot at the championship. Similar to Jeffrey Herlings so often in the MXGP class, the Frenchman can look back at his training injury and wonder what could have been. Another moto victory going towards his previous 10 for 2021 and heading towards his sixth GP win this year and 14th of his career.

Tom Vialle: Another great start and I felt really good and I slowed down at the end. A lot of trouble with lappers and I lost a lot of time trying to pass the lappers and now I look forward to the second one.

The defending MX2 champion once again holeshot, and just took off, leaving all in his wake, even red plate owner Maxime Renaux of the Monster Energy Yamaha team, who had a terrible start, but fought his way through the field in a solid performance. For Renaux, and his massive points lead that 2021 MX2 championship still looks very positive.

In conditions you pray for at the motocross, the MX2 moto one started under burning sun and a perfect temperature for the riders. This final leg of the 2021 MXGP and MX2 championships couldn’t have asked for more.

It was Tom Vialle with a killer start o lead from Isak Gifting, Thibault Benistant, Jago Geerts, Stephen Rubini, Kay de Wolf, Andrea Adamo, Jed Beaton, Tom Guyon, Ruben Fernandez in 10th. Championship leader Maxime Renaux was in 18th place and struggling big time, although got to 13th very quickly.

After a lap the lead was already three seconds as Vialle was just taking off. Rene Hofer moved into 10th place and Mattia Guadagnini was also well back in 17th place. Renaux already 11th and moving forward fast.

After three laps the lead was five seconds and it was then Gifting, Benistant, Geerts, de Wolf, Fernandez, Rubini, Adamo, Renaux, and Hofer 10th. It must be said the Trentino circuit looks amazing and while it might be a little fast and smooth, still a great track to race on. Beaton down and dropped back to 12th place.

The lead continued to be extended by Vialle as on lap six there was a seven second gap between the Frenchman and second placed Gifting, then came Benistant, Geerts, de Wolf, Fernandez, Rubini, Renaux, Adamo and Hofer. Mewse in 13th after a poor start and Guadaganini in 26th and in big trouble.

11 laps in and the lead was 12 seconds and the top ten was Vialle, Gifting, Geerts, de Wolf, Fernandez, Benistant, Rubini, Renaux, Hofer, Beaton. Mewse was up to 12th. Vialle cruising now in front, but the lead moved to 12.3 seconds on lap 13 and then 11.2 on lap 14. No hurry now for the KTM man as he shows his amazing technical skills on this very tough circuit.

Geerts all over Gifting for second place and Benistant made a mistake and dropped to 14th spot. The lead by Vialle with a couple of laps remaining was less than 10 seconds and clearly saving energy for moto two. De Wolf in fourth was 23 seconds back from the leader and then came de Wolf, Fernandez, Renaux, Beaton, Hofer, Rubini and Mewse into 10th place.

Geerts into second place on the final laps and moved into second place and the lead was just four seconds as Vialle was clocking cruise control laps. Vialle won it from Geerts and Gifting.
