Posted on May 15, 2022

South African Dutchman Calvin Vlaanderen of the Gebben Van Venrooy Racing Yamaha team has scored his second Grand Prix victory with a stunning 1-1 performance at the MXGP of Sardinia. Adding this performance to his MXoN win with The Netherlands in 2019 really makes his CV look pretty impressive.

With tears in his eyes and very emotional, Vlaanderen told of his journey to that victory in this the latest round of the 2022 championship around the very tough sand track, in tough weather conditions.

Calvin Vlaanderen: It is unbelievable, I have no words, no words. I want to thank my family, who were always there for me and my team for believing in me. I am going to get drunk tonight. It is unreal, a dream, I don't know what to say. This isn't days of hard work, it is years of hard work.

Jorge Prado: Two weeks off with a should injury and fighting for the win, I am always loving coming to Sardinia and it was a tough one. Super happy for the GasGas racing team and everyone who supports me.
