Webster vs Beaton - This Weekend
Australia’s premier motocross racers will return to action on Sunday, June 22 for round five of the 2025 Penrite ProMX Championship, presented by AMX Superstores (ProMX), as Warwick (Qld) makes its debut on the calendar.
The track features a blend of soft, loamy dirt on top of a harder base, allowing for a range of lines and options to form –which means great racing for both riders and fans alike. Traction will be at a premium, with high-impact competition making for a thrilling weekend.
Located 130km southwest of Brisbane, the motocross round is part of the ‘Warwick Bike Week’ thanks to the Southern Downs Regional Council. The celebration of motorcycling kicked off with the Australian Superbike Championship from June 13-15, with the baton now passing to the ProMX paddock.
Headlining the action will be the Kawasaki MX1 and Pirelli MX2 classes, while the Maxxis MX3 Championship and Fox Racing MX85 Cup will also deliver entertaining and fast-paced action.
After four rounds, 13pts separate Monster Energy CDR Yamaha’s Jed Beaton (Vic) and Boost Mobile Honda’s Kyle Webster (Vic), with the pair having put on a masterclass during the final moto in Traralgon. If the defending champion Webster wants to secure his second title, however, he will need to beat Beaton in both motos as points are at a premium with four rounds remaining.
Third-placed Nathan Crawford (Qld) expressed frustration after round four, with the KTM Racing Team rider highlighting that he’d prefer to be closer to the front-runners and that this was the focus in the weeks between rounds. He has Honda Racing’s Wilson Todd (Qld) and Queensland-based privateer Zachary Watson hot on his heels though and will need to fend them off again at Warwick.
A disappointing weekend for both KTM Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs (SA) and Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki’s Luke Clout (NSW) at the last round will see each rider look for a rebound, while Queensland natives Levi Rogers and Raceline Husqvarna TDub Racing’s Todd Waters will set their sights on strong results this weekend.
It’s all to play for atop the Kawasaki MX1 standings, with round five a pivotal moment in the series for a range of premier class contenders!
Polyflor Honda’s Brodie Connolly (Vic) maintains a 10pt margin over Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha’s Ryder Kingsford (NSW) in the Pirelli MX2 standings, with the defending champion posting a convincing 1-1 performance last time out in Traralgon. It’ll be up to Kingsford to respond on Sunday to keep this year’s title in sight.
The KTM Racing Team duo of Noah Ferguson (Qld) and Byron Dennis (NSW) are scrapping over who will be the lead rider underneath the orange tent, with five markers between the two of them entering round five. NFAL Honda’s Alex Larwood (SA) is close to the fight in fifth position, with the battle for third in the standings a true battle at this stage in the season.
From sixth to 10th lies Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha’s Jayce Cosford (Qld), who is 1pt ahead of the rookie Seth Burchell (NSW), while privateers Cobie Bourke (NSW), Deacon Paice (WA) and Travis Olander (Qld) complete the top 10 – which shows the depth and variety of talent in the category.
The Pirelli MX2 class, as always, will be an entertaining watch as the fight for placement in the series is as strong as ever.
Honda Racing’s Kayd Kingsford has been the class of the MAXXIS MX3 field so far in 2025, having built a 32pt buffer over round one winner Ky Woods (NSW) after four rounds. At some stage, it’ll be about maintenance for Kingsford, who is likely aiming to come out clean at round five and start considering a championship mindset.
Honda-equipped Jet Alsop has posted a string of solid results to sit third overall and 4pts shy of Woods, while Seth Shackleton (WA) and Jack Deveson (Qld) are tied for fourth position.
Kingsford has inched away in the MAXXIS MX3 class during the first half of the championship, meaning it's now up to Woods and his nearest rivals to chase him down before he trades in number 20 for a number one plate by season's end.
Two rounds of Fox Racing MX85 racing see Yamaha-mounted Blake Bohannon (Qld) atop the standings with 91pts, holding a comfortable 16pt lead over last year’s champion Seth Thomas (NSW). Deegan Fort is a further 10pts from Thomas, with plenty of points on the line in Warwick this weekend.
As per usual, there are a bunch of young, fast, talented kids in the MX85 class who’ll be looking to get into the fight at the third and final round of the mini series with unpredictability the name of the game, making for fantastic viewing. Gates will open at 8:00am on Sunday, June 22. Purchase your tickets here to see Australia’s best motocross riders battle it.
