Wilson Goes 1-1

  • Race Report

World traveller, Dean Wilson has won the opening round of the Australian supercross championship, held at the Redcliffe stadium in Queensland, Australia. The former AMA 125cc motocross champion showed brilliance in what was a very mixed night. The British rider went 1-1 for the win and will head into tomorrow nights second round with a lot of momentum and confidence.

It was an emotional night as Wilson's mother, along with his father, is battling cancer, which has been emotionally difficult for him. He has spoken openly about the struggle, and it has impacted him, even influencing his racing as he expressed a desire to win for them.

Dean Wilson: It has been a tough one, I dedicate this one to my mum. Tough weekend and try and make her proud. It is so hard being here in Australia, with her being over there.

Second overall was Luke Clout with 3-2 and 42pts, then Cedric SOUBEYRAS with 2-4 and 40pts. Aaron Tanti finished fourth with 33pts and Hayden Mellross with 31pts.

Clout led the second SX1 main event, with Tanti second, then Walsh, Wilson, Soubeyras, Harrison with Nicoletti in 8th place. Wilson into third and Soubeyras fourth as Walsh dropped back to seventh place. Wilson all over Tanti and he takes second in the whoops and has Clout in his eyeline.

Top ten on lap three was Clout, Wilson, Tanti, Soubeyras, Harrison, Mellross, Nicoletti, Walsh, Zielinski, and Wills. Wilson hounding Clout as the Aussies starts t feel the pressure and while Wilson made a pass, Clout got him back, but then Wilson block passed Clout to take the lead.

Wilson goes 1-1 for the overall victory and a nice points lead over his rivals. You can watch the full coverage right here for free, but you do need to sign up to Danz (also for free) to watch.
