Wilson Takes Main One
In an emotional night, British supercross rider Dean Wilson has won the opening SX1 race in the opening round of the Australian supercross championship, in Queensland, Australia. After coming back from running off the track and then making his way through some mayhem as riders crashed throughout the opening main event.
Wilson's mother, along with his father, are battling cancer, which has been emotionally difficult for him. He has spoken openly about the struggle, and it has impacted him, even influencing his racing as he expressed a desire to win for them.
Dean Wilson: I had to work for that one. I made a mistake in the rhythm section and threat the needle too much. I was lucky these guys were all bunched up and then there was a crash, and I did what I had to do to win
It was Team GB rider, Dylan Walsh who got the holeshot and led early. He was pushed hard by Aaron Tanti and Luke Clout, but those two crashed into each other and at the same time, Dean Wilson was running off the track and was back mid field.
Phil Nicoletti was making his way to the front after a poor start but then ran into the back of Walsh and dropped back to around 10th place. Wilson was working his way through the field and was up to the back wheel of Walsh and made the pass to take the lead.
Once in the lead, Wilson cruised to victory, with Cedric Soubeyras finishing second and Luke Clout, who had worked his way back to the front finished third, with Walsh and Mellross filling out the remaining top five positions.
