Jason Macalpine, host of the Gypsy Tales Podcast, gives us his verdict on the riders in the SX1 and SX2 classes in the World Supercross Championship South African GP.

Jason Anderson 10
You have to give Jason Anderson an absolute straight 10. 10 across the board. He was perfect tonight. He did it in wild circumstances. That was an insane race with Joey Savatgy at the end. Perfect 10 for Jason Anderson.

Colt Nichols 10
Colt was awesome. I mean, dude, I’m giving Colt Nichols a 10. If you know what goes on behind the scenes, he’s had very limited testing. All of the team has been travelling. He’s been running his own programme, doing his own thing. No support from the team at all because they’ve been busy racing. He’s been grafting, and tonight he was on the podium.

Austin Politelli 10
Austin Politelli with a fifth in the final moto is almost a 10 for him. I mean, great night. These are very Southern California conditions. He’s a Southern California kid. This was a great result for Austin Politelli to finish his season.

Joey Savatgy 9
I’ve just got to give him a 9. It was so close. I think the thing that stood out for me was in that second moto. He needed to pass five guys to get into second to give himself not only a shot, he was going to have a shot, but if he got into second in that second race, he controlled his own destiny with a win. He just came up short.

Cameron Durow 8
I think an eight for him tonight, to be in front of his home fans and to experience Supercross. It’s so incredibly hard to be good at Supercross when you don’t have a big domestic series, you don’t have the fans. It was a huge experience for him tonight. He should be stoked.

Jorge Zaragoza 7
Zaragoza was good tonight. He had some flashes. He was second in the main event for a long time.

Devin Simonson 6
Simonson was also good tonight. I’m going to give that a solid six. I saw his name on the leaderboard there a bunch of times; he was just out of the TV pictures but a solid result in sixth in the main race.

Christian Craig 5
This one’s rough. Unfortunately, tonight, Christian gets a five. He was so close to greatness. But don’t let that take away from the epic season that he did have. Just eight weeks ago. He didn’t know what his future looked like. But he has made a claim for a solid future here at World Supercross in 2026. He will be in the hunt for a championship next year.

Henry Miller 5
Henry Miller, not his best night tonight. He really liked the deeper conditions of Sweden, so this is the exact opposite of that. Fifth overall in the championship, though. Great result for him.

Luke Clout 5
Clouty, I’m going to go with a five for tonight. He was unreal. He was third in Superpole. Fast all day. Just didn’t put it together in the main events. But Luke Clout, he has a big future in World Supercross.

Vince Freese 5
That last race, he was up running in the top three but this hasn’t been his best season this year. I expected a little bit more out of him, but new technology on the Stark. They’re learning, they’re developing. I am looking forward to seeing what Vince has next season.

Ryan Breece 5
I’m guessing he would have wanted to be further ahead in the championship, further ahead in the race than 10th tonight. He finished the season in seventh place.

Jordi Tixier 4
It was a rough night for him and he finished the event in second to last place. He would have been hoping for much more.

A thrilling finale in the SX2 category in Cape Town, here Gypsy Tales Podcast host Jason Macalpine gives us his Power Rankings from South Africa.

Shane McElrath 10
10 out of 10 for Shane. I mean, coming into tonight, he needed to get second in the World Championship and won all three motos. Perfect score.

Max Anstie 9
I’m just going to give Max a nine. He wanted to win tonight. He really did. He won the championship, but he wanted to win the overall round to keep that perfect season alive. He’s going to be bummed, but look, if that’s a bad night for Max, it’s still pretty good!

Coty Schock 8
On the podium again tonight, I’m going to say a solid eight only because he could have got second in the championship tonight.

Michael Hicks 7

I’m going to give him a solid seven on the night. I think he’s been one of the MVPs of the season. He’s on a brand new bike which requires a lot of work, a lot of development and he put in some really, really great results. He was the best of the Stark Future crew.

Kelana Humphrey 6
I’m going to give Kalana a six because he got thrown into the deep end. He’s never raced Supercross. He’s an 18-year-old kid. He’s a vibe. I would love to see him get another shot at World Supercross next year.

Cullen Park 6
I’m going to give Cullen a six tonight. It’s been a great season for him. I think this was a breakout year for him.

Enzo Lopes 5
It was a tough night for Enzo. He’s going to be bummed on that one. I’m going to give him a five. He’s had a great season, though.

Cole Thompson 5
He was fast in Superpole but just wasn’t really a factor in the races the way that he should have been with the speed that he showed.

Anthony Bourdon 5
I expected more from Bourdon tonight. The French are great in hard pack conditions, so maybe that was a factor.

Kyle Peters 4
He just wasn’t in the mix for the wins tonight the way that he can be with the speed that he has. He would have been looking for more.

Kyle Chisholm 4
He wasn’t really a factor in these races tonight. He’s probably not going to be stoked on his performance.

Robbie Wageman 4
He was fast in practice but could not deliver in the races and would have been hoping for a better result.

Maxime Desprey 4
He is a fast rider but finished the event in 13th place when really he should have been challenging higher up.

Noah Viney 3
Just a rough season all round for Noah, but still a great experience. He’s a young kid. He’ll be back next year.
