WSX vs OZ SX - Drama
Trouble is brewing in Australia as the third round of the World Supercross Championship will be run on the Gold Coast of Queensland this Saturday night, and the final round of the Australian Supercross Championship, set for Adelaide in South Australia, also on Saturday night.
Two events, two thousand kilometers apart, but the promoters of the Australia supercross championship are not happy with two major events running on the same weekend. Obviously, both have live television, and one will miss out, probably the Aussie title round.
Just as we had for the MXGP round, thousands of fans will flock to the WSX round, with names like Haiden Deegan, Eli Tomac, Ken Roczen, Jason Anderson, Cooper Webb and Justin Cooper involved, while Adelaide will have Dean Wilson, and no disrespect to the Scotsman, but the WSX round is huge for the country.
Adam Bailey, director of AME Group spoke with Motoonline about the situation. Not happy with an agreement that has been broken.
“We have an exclusive agreement with MA, and so we believe that that’s been breached by doing it,” stated Adam Bailey, director of AME Group, which operates AUSX. And so we’ve put a lot of pressure on them and making sure that can’t happen again next year and beyond. I don’t think they had intention – MA, that is – of damaging the AUSX series.
“Obviously the Australian series is their series, but I think they are a little bit naive to think that it wasn’t going to have a big impact and probably ignorant to factors. And so, I don’t want to say lesson learned, but I think that they all know that that is not acceptable not only by us, but [the] industry, manufacturers, teams… no one is happy about it.”
So, while the fact two major events in Australia will both attract large crowds and no doubt both will be huge success’s, the drama is yet to unfold.
