2027 - The Pre-Season
With the MXGP season starting in Spain in late February (28 February in Almonte) its going to be interesting to see which riders line up for some of the pre-season races. With a handful of Italian races scheduled earlier in the year and of course, Hawkstone Park being an important one, riders will have plenty of choices.
A week prior to the opening round in Spain, the Ashbrook Hawkstone International Motocross, powered by Syntol Lubricants, has set its provisional date for Sunday, February 21, 2027. Held at the legendary Hawkstone Park Circuit near Shrewsbury (SY4 4NA), this event serves as the official opening of the British motocross season and a crucial warm-up ahead of the global MXGP calendar.
The race format will be the same as 2025 with MXGP, MX2 and the EMX125 class. We know this system of races works well and it is what the fans want.
After the disappointment 2026 being rained off for only the second time ever, we cant wait to get 2027 underway. 2025 was another fantastic year for spectators and the weather was kind to us. Over the coming months we will be announcing some exciting names again and SMC can’t wait to welcome the loyal, old and new Motocross fans to this fabulous Shropshire track. We will ensure we get World Class riders that will put on a brilliant show.
The Dutch MX Season Opener will return in 2027, with the start of the new season taking place on March 6–7, so a week after the opening in Spain. For the first time, the event will be held over two days, creating a full weekend of racing. For the fifth consecutive year, the opening event of the Dutch motocross season will take place at the legendary Herselse Bossen circuit in Lierop.
With the new motocross season, the opening event will be extended by an additional day. This means that a long-standing wish to have more classes competing at the season opener will finally become a reality in 2027.
The Sunday programme will remain largely unchanged, featuring international and national stars in the 500cc, 250cc and 125cc classes. However, to make it a season opener for everyone, organisers have decided to introduce an additional programme on Saturday. This will allow everyone to get their season underway on March 6–7.
World-class riders such as Jeffrey Herlings, Kay de Wolf, Romain Febvre, Liam Everts and Brent van Doninck have all enjoyed victories on the demanding sandy circuit in the past.
Behind the scenes, preparations are already well underway to ensure the 2027 edition is another major success, with organisers aiming to provide spectators with a strong entry list featuring some of the world’s top riders.
Further details about the complete weekend format will be announced soon. Organisers will keep everyone updated through their media channels over the coming weeks.
