Recently, André Mathieu, general manager of the Lierneux MX circuit, officially announced an ambitious project to host a round of the Motocross World Championship (MXGP) in 2027.

After co-hosting the MXGP in Bastogne in 2012 and 2013, André Mathieu, aware of the economic impact this type of event could generate, naturally turned to his region to find a suitable location for the construction of a brand-new motocross track.

This project could herald a new era for motocross in Belgium and transform Lierneux into a truly international destination for motocross enthusiasts.

The Lierneux MX circuit is already renowned for its technical features and beautiful scenery, but the addition of an MXGP race could put the region in the international spotlight.

André Mathieu stated: “We have the opportunity to make Lierneux a must-see for motocross enthusiasts. This project is not only a sporting ambition, but also a way to promote our region.”

A project under development
Led by André Mathieu, the team is working with local authorities to ensure all requirements are met. Investments are also planned in the circuit's infrastructure and surrounding services to guarantee an unforgettable experience for riders and spectators.

Positive impact on the region
Hosting an MXGP race could bring significant economic benefits to Lierneux, attracting thousands of spectators and international media. André Mathieu emphasizes the importance of local involvement: "We need the community's support to make this event a reality. Every contribution and every vote is essential."

Conclusion
With André Mathieu's vision and determination, the Lierneux MX circuit could become a meeting place for motocross enthusiasts from around the world by 2027. This project promises to put Lierneux on the international motocross map and have a lasting impact on the region.

After several searches and discussions, an agreement was reached with a landowner near Lierneux, at a site called "Les Hauts Sarts." Although the location is close to the E25 motorway and the N89, it is also somewhat isolated from nearby residential areas, as the first houses are about 900 meters away…

With the first spades in the ground, the Hauts-Sarts motocross circuit was born. Meanwhile, despite his busy schedule, André Mathieu challenged himself to organize the 2014 Junior World Championship on the same track…

After weeks of work of rare intensity, given the time limit and especially the measures imposed by the FIM and MXGP for the organization of the event, everything was ready before the deadline, and the Junior World Championship moved to Lierneux in August 2014! Since the operating permit was provisional, the necessary steps had to be taken to transform the location into a permanent circuit.

MX Lierneux is located in the municipality of Lierneux in the province of Liège, outside residential areas, close to main roads and city centers, where you'll find many shops and restaurants.
