Lucas Coenen isn’t just the future, he is the present as he takes yet another GP victory, his second in a row and 12th in his career. The young KTM factory rider is just beautiful to watch and clearly building a lot of momentum on the 450.

With victory in Switzerland two weeks ago, the Belgian has closed right up on the two riders ahead of him (Romain Febvre and Tim Gajser) in the MXGP points and must be close to becoming the favourite for the World title after the last two rounds of the championship. His 1-1-1 in Portugal is just the start of what is going to be an exciting 2025.

Lucas Coenen: It was difficult, but I managed to stay in front of Romain. He has some good lines and I think he made a mistake. This time I won the two motos and its like a dream. I hope Tim is getting better, because I want to race with him. A really good weekend, I didn't expect it with the mud, but good starts. Romain was pushing hard and I was a little nervous and when he made a mistake, I relaxed and had a really good lap.

Romain Febvre: In the first one in Spain (in the mud) I struggled and I knew I needed to make the starts and I was with Lucas in both motos, and I passed him, in the first one, but he passed me back. I took second overall and took the red plate. Lets see what is going on next weekend.

Kawasaki factory rider Romain Febvre went 2-2 for second overall, but more importantly has extended his lead in the championship points to Tim Gajser and third was the other HRC man, Ruben Fernandez with 3-3 scores.

Championship points are now Romain Febvre 330 points, Tim Gajser 305pts, Lucas Coenen 287pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 250pts and Ruben Fernandez 223pts.

MXGP Moto Two

Coenen led the second MXGP moto from Febvre, Fernandez, Vlaanderen, Renaux, Coldenhoff, Bonacorsi, Jonass, Herlings, and Bogers. Coenen again looking effortless in these tough conditions and Renaux in trouble and 13th. On lap one the lead by Coenen was 2.1 seconds over Febvre and five seconds over third placed Fernandez.

Lap four it was Coenen with a 1.9 second lead over Febvre, then Fernandez, Vlaanderen, Bonacorsi, Coldenhoff, Herlings, Jonass, Seewer and Renaux 10th. Coenen technically so nice on the bike and you can see it in these conditions.

After six laps Coenen maintained his lead over Febvre, with the gap 1.7 seconds, while Fernandez in third was 5.8 off the pace, then came Vlaanderen, Bonacorsi, Coldenhoff, Herlings, Jonass, Seewer and Renaux.

The gap between Coenen and Febvre remained the same on lap eight and they were getting further and further away from Fernandez. Coenen turned up the pace and on lap nine the gap was 2.4 seconds as Vlaanderen started catching Fernandez in third place.

Herlings moved into sixth place as he passed Coldenhoff and a lot of experienced racers inside the top ten, but the young gun, Coenen leads them all. Herlings going after Bonacorsi now and will see something of a Herlings charge? Febvre a big mistake and nearly crashed, but stayed up, losing ground on Coenen.

Herlings slipped over and handed sixth place back to his countryman. And the lead by Coenen was now 1.3 as the rain returned. Coenen turned up the speed and walked away with the moto win and the Grand Prix victory. Febvre second in the race and the GP. Fernandez third in the moto and third in the GP.
