Making it a family double victory, MXGP rookie, Lucas Coenen of the Red Bull KTM factory team has won the MXGP qualifier in Turkey today. The young Belgian started at the front and just controlled the race, winning easily and going into tomorrow with a slight points lead cut on red plate man, Romain Febvre, who finished third behind Coenen and Jeffrey Herlings.

Febvre and Coenen are now seperated by 29 points, with three Sundays and two Saturdays remaining. Romain Febvre on 843 points and Lucas Coenen 814pts.

Lucas Coenen: I had fun, jumped out of the gate and made a mistake, but I kept riding smooth. The track is tricky, you can make a big mistake fast here.

MXGP Qualifier

Coenen, Herlings, Febvre and Gajser first, second, third and fourth and yes, this is going to be good. The big four placed where they should be. As we thought might happen, Herlings and Gajser between the title contenders and making life difficult for the Frenchman.

Coenen making a statement after his Arnhem disappointment as he held two seconds over Herlings. Lap one done and Febvre four seconds off the leader, and the remaining top ten was Renaux, Jonass, Gifting, Fernandez, Bogers, and Vlaanderen 10th. Coldenhoff struggling in 19th position.

Lap two the lead of Coenen over Herlings was three seconds, with Gajser 4.5 back and Febvre 5.4 behind in fourth place. Coenen the fastest lap of the race and a second quicker than anyone else. Lap four Coenen extended to five seconds and Febvre losing ground on Gajser, with Renaux miles behind the big four in fifth place.

Lap seven and it was Coenen with 6.3 over Herlings, then Gajser 10 seconds back and Febvre starting to close up on Gajser and putting pressure on the Honda man. Remaining top ten was Renaux, Jonass, Gifting, Vlaanderen, Bogers, and Van Doninck in 10th. Febvre moved into third place. Coenen wins it from Herlings and Febvre.
