Coenen Wins Saturday - MX2
Nestaan Husqvarna factory rider Lucas Coenen showed he too can ride in the mud as he won the Saturday qualification race for the MX2 class. It was a flag to flag victory and he eventually won by more than 10 seconds over Liam Everts and Marc Rossi. After the results were given, Everts was docked two places for jumping on a yellow flag.
Championship points are now de Wolf 300 points, Simon Laengenfelder 252pts, Liam Everts 237pts, Lucas Coenen 233pts and Thibault Benistant 226pts.
Lucas Coenen: Track is brutal, but I managed it and only at the end somebody hit me in the goggles.
Pouring rain in France as the MX2 qualification race gets underway and it was Sasha Coenen down in the first corner as his brother Lucas led the field, then Rossi, Everts, Adamo, Prugnieres, Zanchi, Elzinga, Bruce, Karsmakkers, Martinez, de Wolf 11th and Chambers 14th. Sasha Coenen last and Benistant not starting due to his practice crash.
Terrible conditions for the riders as this slippery hard pack makes life difficult. After a lap the lead by Coenen was two seconds over Rossi, Everts four seconds back, then Adamo and Zanchi. De Wolf up to eight and Langenfelder into 10th place. De Wolf moved past Elzinga to move into seventh position. Sasha Coenen into 25th.
De Wolf into sixth place as he passed Prugnieres and on lap two the top ten was Coenen, Rossi, Everts, Adamo, Zanchi, de Wolf, Prugnieres, Elzinga, Bruce and Langenfelder. De Wolf also passed Zanchi who crashed and the red plate man was now fifth.
Lap five and it was Coenen with a 2.3 second lead over Rossi, then Everts 4.7 second back, followed by Adamo, De Wolf, Prugnieres, Elzinga, Langenfelder, Zanchi, and Karssmakers in 10th. Langenfelder passes Elzinga and into seventh position, Haarup moved into 10th place after a poor start.
Everts into second place and again making points as he gains on series leader Kat De Wolf and second placed Simon Langenfelder. Coenen won from Rossi and De Wolf.
