Guillem Farres has send his countrymen into a frenzy by winning an exciting and spectacular opening MX2 moto. The Spaniard on the factory Triumph had to deal with Camden McLellan for most of the race but held on for a very popular win.

Guillem Farres: It feels like another day training with Camden. He is really good in the sand and I learn from him and he learns from me. I have a good luck bracelet and I really enjoyed it. It is a long time since I led, but I enjoyed it.

McLellan was second and third, some way back was defending world champion, Simon Langenfelder on the Red Bull KTM machine. With the win, Farres also claimed the red plate and MX2 championship lead, Guillem Farres 80 points, Simon Längenfelder 77pts, Camden Mc Lellan 74pts, Mathis Valin 61pts and Liam Everts 60pts.

MX2 Moto One

Coenen with the lead in the opening MX2 moto in Spain, with Farres second, then Langenfelder, Reisulis, Valin, McLellan, Everts, Lata, Karssemakers, and Walvoort 10th. After a lap the lead by Coenen was 1.5 seconds over Farres, with Langenfelder 3.4 back and Reisulis 5.4 off the leader.

McLellan all over Reisulis, but not able to get past, while Coenen up front looking as sharp as he was yesterday, but Farres not allowing the Belgian to get too far ahead as he started putting pressure on the leader. The gap half a second on lap two, and Langenfelder 2.5 behind in third.

The Spaniard really bringing the crowd alive with his beautiful riding behind Coenen, and a sudden mistake by Farres and Langenfelder now putting miles of pressure on the local rider. The defending world champion is the quickest on the track and looking to continue his Argentinian success.

Coenen down and struggled to get the bike fired up again, and the lead goes to Farres, with Langenfelder really putting in some great laps times and seemingly sure to pass the Spaniard. Coenen back in ninth place and again, a mistake will cost him major points. Great vibe around this very difficult sand circuit as the huge crowd buzzing for their countryman.

Farres making sure to block a passing move by Langenfelder and the top ten on lap five was Farres, Langenfelder, Reisulis, McLellan, Valin, Everts, Lata, Reisulis, Coenen and Karssemakers in 10th. Really good performance by Farres as the pressure is enormous from the world champion.

McLellan putting in solid lap times close right up and was suddenly a very close third, making a Triumph sandwich with the KTM man. Amazing the improvement of the two Triumph riders as McLellan moved into second place and the British brand showing perfection at this moment. Top ten on lap nine was Farres, McLellan, Langenfelder, Valin, Reisulis, Everts, Lata, Coenen and Reisulis.

The Triumph boys showing amazing speed as they both gap Langenfelder to nearly four seconds and on lap 12 Farres was still in control, but the South African not giving up just yet. Top ten was Farres, McLellan, Langenfelder, Valin, Reisulis, Everts, Lata, Coenen, Reisulis and Karssemakers 10th.

Coenen moved past Lata for seventh place, and the two leaders, are really locked together, with McLellan pushing a little harder, with four minutes and three laps remaining. Langenfelder has Valin behind him and the world champion might lose a spot. McLellan really pushing hard now as he tries for a pass on the Spaniard.

The circuit looking more like Lommel than a Spanish track, and the Spaniard is riding it like a king, but McLellan also showing his sand skills in second and the pressure is just huge. Nothing in it as McLellan goes for a pass, but couldn’t get it as Farres making sure the locals crowd remain involved. The noise from the spectators is as loud as you would expect.

Langenfelder now four seconds behind as the Triumph men continue to race at a frantic pace. Three laps remaining and it is still anyones race as Farres leads McLellan and the Spaniard has made a bigger gap. Farres wins it from McLellan and Langenfelder. What a race!!
